*palomo- (adj).) derogatory description of an individual who has just been taken advantage of., (syn) pendejo

*pendejo-scared., one who is not confrontational, see palomo

*sanki panki- she/he engaged in prostitution in tourist areas

*baina/vaina- universal word of dominican origin used to describe any inanimate object

*"que lo que"- slang., informal greeting
similar to "wassup" in the us and canada

*"que hubo"- literally translates to "what was there," "what happened"; slang; informal greeting

*"dimelo"- literally translates to "tell me"; slang, informal greeting

I hear "segundito" if I ask someone for something, ("give me a second") and this means the same thing as "ma?ana" here in the DR. The proper response to this for me has been "por favor, no segundito, - MOMENTICO! (please, not tomorrow, but in a little bit OK?)

Another DR response when someone is trying to make you an offer you SHOULD refuse is: "Lo siento, pero yo creo tu piensa yo soy un indio" or , "I'm sorry, but I believe you think I'm an Indian" referring back to the Tainos and the Spanish.

Cojelo suave = take it easy. Almost an exact translation.

Yes that is the correct way HB, but growing up in the DR, we were not allowed to say the word Jartura, hence it was removed from the saying (mom used to get pretty angry when she heard that word)
