Someone posted about Hindu and Muslim sobriety, could they have been horrified when faced with the proof that their daughter was drinking? Enough to leave? How shameful is that???? We don’t know.
In one of the FB groups, one of their close family friends pleaded with a poster to take down the video of her inebriated and said the family is facing Indian community ostracization from what has been seen. I think they may very well have been shocked with what they came to learn.

I saw a post here mention that they have other kids at home so that is a more plausible reason to return.

They have a congressman who made this statement, interesting that the same appeal is also made here:
In particular, they ask that people not post videos, pictures, or unsubstantiated claims about Sudiksha, especially surveillance footage of her in the Dominican Republic. https://subramanyam.house.gov/media...m-releases-statement-behalf-sudiksha-konankis

I look at it like one of two parties are responsible for what happened.
1. This young women for going into the water at this hour after drinking
with so many red flags posted along the beach regardless of what her intentions
were.
2. The staff working in the resort for failing to warn/ inform their guest of why these
red flags were posted.

I seriously doubt the Dominican Police are going to beat an AI tourist who has access to being photographed by the news media.
They use a Bag of Oranges , so it does not leave any marks , like in them Movies,, have you not heard ?

oy vey ... " beaten" but NO Confession or anything. just for good measure.

it would almost be funny if the story were not so terribly Sad .

I lean toward the tragic accident theory, and thus I have to assign some responsibility to both the young man and lady. Poor decisions led to a horrible result. I don't know if you left him out of your #1 on purpose or by mistake. As far as #2, I really can't believe these two individuals did not know what the red flags were...it wasn't their first day at the hotel. A question though: were the flags in place at that particular hour? If not, there is some liability perhaps for the hotel. But, if it is also known "you're on your own after x hour and before y hour", then that lessens the liability.

Not sure what they use to beat a confession out of someone but I can
tell you with 100% certainty they use thick rubber straps with serrated edges
when prisoners in a holding cell misbehave.

Nothing good happens anywhere after midnight.
Let it be a lesson (be it a tough one) to others contemplating doing the same.

What ?
must be a Long time since you went to a Disco.. many dont even OPEN Til after Midnight .
Back in the day we would take a Nice Nap after dinner, and get up at 11 Pm, take a shower and then to go out .
Have things changed that much ?
Drinking all evening and into the wee hours is another AMATEUR Move
Always take a nap after dinner . and then start with fresh Battery charge .
Dancing, and Alert til 4 AM , not a problem

So at 4 AM after doing all that drinking you head right over to a perilous beach and jump in I presume......................

I have no theory at all about this tragedy. But if he is changing his story, how do we know- aside from the video- what is true?

Did he really try to pull her out of the water like a lifeguard? Did she ever come up from the wave?

How would we know any of this is true?

No surprise they want to limit the media damage to their daughter. East Indian families are, by their very nature, insular. They keep to themselves and rarely launder their dirty linen in public. Add money, power and position which her parents appear to have, and they‘re even more protective of their families. Quiet, intelligent, hard working, unassuming people. I can’t even begin to imagine what they are going through now. If they returned home, it probably was to avoid more media scrutiny.

I agree. Cant see them doing that to a US citizens involved in a high profile incident. He would be screaming to the media if it happened and would have a get out of jail free card.

Are you actually coming to your senses now ?
Actually that is EXACTLY what they did. So you knew enough not to, they did not and unfortunately she drowned because of it.....................

I agree with no 1. Drinking clouded her judgement. She is solely responsible for her actions even if she saw the flags and knew what they meant and her friend warned her not to go in. As for No 2, unless it was her first day at the resort, she probably knew what the flags were for and the dangerous beach conditions in that area. Resort staff can only do so much to warn young men and women hell bent on having a week long party where unlimited free booze is the main component.
