Are there home gardens & such in SAnto DOmingo? I am used to having one here in the states and would miss having one there where the growing season is so great!

sweisser, welcome to the DR1 board. There is lot of information on the board about gardening. We have a few good gardeners in Santo Domingo that post here. Use the search function and there will be a lot for you to read.

Also fiy, each thread on the DR1 usually stays on topic (otherwise we will never be able to find anything). So, for a thread on gardening, after you've read some of what is already on the forum, please start a new one and let's not hijack Batich's thread on glass jars for all kinds of healthy concoctions :cheeky:

For those who will be interested in making Kambucha (Kombucha) I have an advice.
This mushroom lives on tea and sugar. Sugar is cheap in DR but tea is not.
Prepare yourself. Ask somebody who travels from U.S. to bring you some cheap tea in big boxes from Costco.

Closer to March 15 I will start a new thread with the info where and when to pick up your kefir and kambucha (kombucha) culture.

If some of the DR1 members has a bar or restaurant in Sosua we could arrange it there.

Contact me with ideas in this regard.

Those who are interested in Kefir/ Kambucha (Kombucha) PM me or email (abba800800@yahoo.com) - or better both - to pick up.

kefir is a very for those who are lactose intolerant. Kefir is also excellent for cancer patients who are going through those cancer treatments of radiation and chemotherapy. These treatments strip ur intestenal tract of the good bacteria and kefir restores these good bacteria.

In the US you can buy it at most supermarkets, in the dairy section.
