Going to Miami in October - recommend an optical store

Another thought. Hotel Turey, Santo Domingo is one block south from the clinic. Not fancy but after eye dilation and/or surgery, is nice and close. The rooms have a kitchen so that was a plus too. Major grocery store and pharmacy a block west and several restaurants within walking distance.


Easy to get to/from the highway. Stop at the store to shop before going to hotel; one way street. Park the car and walk or use a cab.

That's within walking distance of Metro Estación Juan Ulises García Saleta, L2 (Centro Olimpico). It's a 528.87 meter walk south on Ortega y Gasset and west on Fantini Falaco give or take a step or two.

If you're like me converting meters to feet in your head does not come easy. I rely on a crutch; a very simple math formula.

...Don't know what the eye issues are but...about 20 years ago I had lasic on my eyes. end result was 20/15 vision both eyes...now no glasses, and that's wonderful...the money you save on replacing glasses was more than the lasic…….

They have all the latest and best equipment for any eye problem. Glasses in the same building with equipment for proper prep for progressive bifocal and horizontals/side vision clarity. UV, non-scratch and sun shading coatings. They sent from S.D. to north coast via bus.

A couple of apt./hotels close for easy walk to/from the clinic. Major food, drug stores and many restaurants nearby.

Very inexpensive compared to the U.S. for our cataract operations. Under U.S. $5K for both eyes including glasses; didn't even get to our insurance deductible. U.S. estimates around U.S. 20K with 6 months wait to do second eye so added travel and stay times for each eye and check ups.

I think it depends on age - A lot of early problems can be found by an ophthalmologist which LensCrafters and Walmart may not find.
Like signs of Glaucoma, clouding of lens, macular degeneration or Diabetic retinopathy.
If she is over 45, I would see and ophthalmologist, & get a prescription for the correction from him if no other problems are found then head to a place like Costco or LensCrafters for the glasses.

But if you want expensive frames you may not find what you want, although I do know that Costco can make corrective glass polarized lens for Rayban frames.

And if you are getting sunglasses without polarization you really are not getting full protection. If you have blue eyes, or spend a lot of time outdoors or on the water, then polarized lenses are absolute must

I had both eyes done for $2,400 at Pacific Eye Institute in Portland Oregon in 2010 (one week apart). No one pays $20K for a non-complex cataract operation, unless they get to hold Kylie Jenner's hand during the operation. Or maybe a neck massage from Kate Upton's bosoms
