Good quality Shoe Stores?
New Balance are my favs. Most are made in the US. New Bedford MA. They may be able to direct you to an outlet in the DR. Otherwise, don't fart around. Use Amazon, input what you want, and have it shipped. If you were in the States, you'd probably spend an equal amount in gas and time than shipping will cost.
the fashion i cannot stand about dominican men is, black leather shoes(fake leather) with no socks and you can see the feet cause of the skinny jeans.. soooooo gay no offecnce to any gays. but i mean. its really ugly, and with the heat, im sure those feet smell really bad once they take off their shoes
met a timb. (shortened for a reason)... management factory guy and i felt that there might be a chance at a pair of low cut work style shoes .didnt know me well enough and there is plenty of security...i was invited for a visit ... but i was told all go to the boat for shipping.... you know how it goes...we missed one appt.. saw each other at the atm/bank and didnt talk anymore about getting a pair...
i have never bought a pair in d.r. because of the european sizing...43 44 etc...i was drawn to the more expensive shoes from spain and brazil but i gave up sneakers wear some tims, like expensive handmade english shoes ,and the english gum soled shoes...like chukka boots...called wallabees...a little expensive and comfortable.

I would never wear shoes without socks because my feet feel like they are sticking to the shoes, however if someone else wants to who cares.
It also promotes athlete's foot to not wear socks in regular shoes repeatedly.
I buy my shoes from Zappo's .. have for years. They have everything and great service. I had to send back a pair of Rockports, since Rockports changed styles and factories and no longer fit. But I did it from the DR post office. checked with Zappos on the proper address, had the package certified, it went back with no problems and my account was credited. For shoes, I go to Zappos.
There are a couple of good shoe stores in Sambil. Bakers, and another one, like Naturalizer, but with another well-known name that escapes me right now. Agora has Naturalizer and several stores for good quality sneakers. There's a big one I think on the second floor, Sports something, which is also at Sambil, and there's a separate Adidas and another one, Converse or Nike, I think. There's a Puma store in Megacentro. I bought a very good quality pair of cross-training sneakers there, the best ones I've had after Nikes. I'm very picky with my walking/sports shoes, and all these stores have quality stuff.
Online I've ordered from Land's End and had a good experience. Bought Keen sports sandals from Amazon and they turned out great too.

I'm a bit of a sandal connaisseur, I currently wear Amazon.com: ECCO Yucatan: Sports & Outdoors and they seem to be holding up OK.. Locally there is a brand named Bojo's that makes leather goods and there stuff seems to hold up and is reasonably priced. I have a pair of sandals from them that cost me about 2500$ RD from La Sirena but usually they are found in Anthony's also. The last brand I can kind of recommend is another brand I've seen in La Sirena and more expensive boutiques in the capital. It is called Cortango or something to that effect and it has an icon that looks like an upside down U or something. Their sandals run around the 1000$ RD range and last 4-6 months with daily use. Some good shoes I bought are of a brand called Bass (from Maine). I bought them because the colleague I was with (in Maine) told me they were one of the best shoes he knew, even though they were kind of ugly, and I must admit, I use them a lot, and even though in this country all shoes I have break within a year, these are still perfect after now two years.
