Well as someone who has gout, rarely drinks, eat plenty of the right foods and avoids the foods that make Gout worse, the only thing that worked for me was medication. Mine affects my right ankle, thankfully the MEDS work. Still, careful diet and exercise do make a difference in overall health.

I've had gout for thirty years. It was initially brought on by my blood pressure medication which was a diuretic and raised my uric acid level. Then I had to take Allipurinal daily as a gout preventative. My Blood pressure medication was changed to a beta blocker and no more need for the Allipurinal.
I avoid lamb, raw spinach, anchovies, red wine, and beans.
When I have gout now it is usually brought on by my consumption of copious amounts of Kettle One and/or Far Niete Cabernet. When it hits I take Indomethacin 50mg four times a day for three days. It completely ruins my digestive tract but cures the gout.

If you have a diet that is very high in purines then you will be more prone to getting gout. Purine, when eaten in your food, converts to uric acid in your body which then in turn causes gout. Many medical professionals will advise people that have gout to take medications such as allopurinol to help to reduce the levels of uric acid in the body, but wouldn?t it make a lot more sense if you got rid of uric acid by attacking it at the source? Purine. The following list is of the best low purine diet for gout sufferers. They are all low purine foods.

The Best Low Purine Diet for Gout Sufferers

1. Fresh cherries, strawberries, blueberries, and other red-blue berries
2. Bananas
3. Celery
4. Tomatoes ? Superfood
5. Vegetables including kale, cabbage, parsley, green-leafy vegetables
6. Foods high in vitamin C (red cabbage, red bell peppers, tangerines, mandarins, oranges, potatoes) See bottom of article for more information on vitamin C.
7. Drink fruit juices and purified water (1 litre per day)
8. Low-fat dairy products
9. Complex carbs (breads, cereals, pasta, rice)
10. Chocolate, cocoa
11. Coffee, tea ? Green tea is best
12. Carbonated beverages
13. Essential fatty acids (flaxseed, nuts, seeds)
14. Tofu.
15. Low fat dairy produce.
16. Broccoli ? Superfood ? Drink broccoli soup and broccoli juice.

Another way to compliment this low purine diet for gout is to take abnormally high doses of vitamin C. Vitamin C in doses of about 1,500mg daily or more has been proven to reduce uric acid levels in the body. People with such high doses of vitamin C daily have a 45% LESS chance of getting gout than people taking the RDA of vitamin C daily.

I occasionally get gout in my toes, although I eat a pretty ordinary diet with plenty of veg, fruit and oatmeal I don't do any special dieting. When I get an attack I take 1 Diclofenac Duo-BMS 75mg in the morning, if it hasn't gone by the following morning I take another pill and without exception it goes. A Romanian doctor I used to know prescribed this. Very painful gout so good luck.

I have been suffering with the gout for 6 years. The websites for information on what to eat will drive you absolutely crazy. One site will say one thing and another will say just the opposite. I have found (in my case) that ANY form of meat product, beef, pork, chicken and fish will have an immediate painful effect, normally in my right foot and large toe. The less meat, the better off you will be. You have to drink an extremely large amount of water every day to help even a little. Lots of fresh fruits and certain vegetables is the only answer.
I had to totally stop eating my favorite food here, chivo. No sooner would I eat this and my right toe would start throbbing like a car ran over it.
And number 1....NO BEER....
Anyone that doesn't suffer from this condition has no idea how painful it can become.
El National sells cherry juice every Monday and I try to buy enough to last a week.
Cherry juice is the best to help keep gout in check...

I've suffered from Gota for years, and nothing really seems to work as far as limiting foods, at least for me. I have tried for years to no avail to see what it is that triggers my attacks, and can not figure out any 1 or series of foods that triggers it, and I think that its just genetic, if you are prone to gout, you will get attacks, no matter what you eat - just my opinion anyway!

When I feel an attack coming on, I take a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water twice a day, sipping it down over an hour or so - this supposedly makes your urine more acidic and helps flush the acid from the system. I thought it was an old wives tale, but have used it with great success my last 4 attacks, all of which were shorter and much less painful then previous attacks, with no medication or doctors visit required. Of course baking soda is very high in salt and can cause stomach upset in some people, so check with a doctor first, but its worked better than anything else for me.

I suffered from excruciating achilles heel tendon pain for years. Orthopaedic specialist examined me and had me doing heel stretching exercises - no help. It got so bad that I couldn't wear closed shoes, I lived in backless sandals in summer, and clogs in the winter, or backless 'mules' if I needed something dressier. Couldn't sit on a recliner, resting my feet on the footrest was painful. :(

One day my GP called after getting results from my latest blood test, and asked me to come in. He said he had tested my uric acid for the first time, and it was off the charts - did I have pain in my big toe??? I said no, only my achilles heel. He said that was rare, but could be gout. Gave me a prescription for allopurinol, and two days later the pain was gone. Two days. After years of pain and useless specialists. :confused:

Probably genetic for me, my dad had it.

It's not a wives tale, but if you read about taking baking soda for gout attacks you might be surprised at the side effects, they could be very serious.....
And 2 teaspoons a day is a lot...

Dominicans are right in calling epilepsy (a falling sickness) la gota, which is short for gota caduca
