The government continues to crack down on electricity fraud. EdeEste reports the dismantling 8,863 electricity fraud installations in just May 2025. The installations enabled low cost power service for households and businesses located in eastern Santo Domingo and La Romana.

EdeEste mentions irregularities in the electricity installations of the large night spots of Dope Room and Zona G Lounge & Bar by Fogoo in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. Also mentioned by name are the businesses of JR Pichardo Sport and Cafeteria Yessenia in Los Tres Brazos.

In La Romana, Ede Este mentions irregularities were found in the power access to the Colmado El Clásico and Súper Colmado Velásquez.

Finding illegal connections is probably the easiest job in the country..
Got that right and what their finding is only the tip of the iceberg. They will never eliminate electricity piracy. Heavy fines would send a good message but that won’t happen.

What’s really stupid are the deliberate 4 hour “punishment” blackouts, as a paying customer you start to wonder why you should pay if they cut it anyway.

Finding them is one thing. I wouldn’t want to be the guy disconnecting that illegal connection.
True but I guess they wear rubber gloves and boots and are somewhat equipped. The guys making the illegal connections however…
And sometimes they are the same guys.

I was thinking more about the angry business/home owners but you make a good point.
Ah ok, also true. My OH originates from the campo just north of San Cristobal, it was like a battle there decades ago and eventually Edesur didn’t came back until recently to finally install meters without fights. The illegal connections are still there next to them..

I think the comment referenced security concerns and not safety concerns, but I agree on the later
