In a coordinated effort to enforce immigration laws and retake private property, the Migration Agency (DGM), backed by state institutions, conducted a large-scale operation in the Mata Mosquito community near Friusa, Bávaro. The intervention resulted in the arrest of over 500 undocumented individuals and the demolition of precarious dwellings, the Migration Agency reports.

The operation, focused on identifying and removing unauthorized occupants from privately-owned land, specifically targeted individuals with irregular immigration status. Authorities confirmed that the majority of those detained were Haitian nationals lacking the necessary legal documentation to reside in the country.

Those apprehended were transferred to the Haina detention center for verification and subsequent repatriation, in accordance with the country’s General Migration Law 285-04.

This whole affair, the cleansing of Mata Mosquito aka Monte Verde aka Friusa is the fallout of about thirty-five + years of unrestrained growth and development of the Punta Cana tourist zone. Developers needed laborers. Haitians with or without documents were desired because they worked long hard days for low wages. The gravel paved Friusa crossroad many years back was named after the hotel supply business stationed there. Back then it was a very convenient place to settle the workers, out of sight of the projects and resorts, yet close. It transformed over the years spreading into a large urban community of immigrants, Dominicans, and commercial enterprises. The 20%-80% workforce quota, foreign vs Dominican, was loosely enforced. There was a school built in the Mata Mosquito barrio to keep the foreigners there. We all know schools need a government rubber stamp to operate. Complicity between authorities and businesses kept the area operating with the legals and illegals. Yet, the area continued to draw in the undocumented, more than what it was able to sustain without being noticed from the government centers. It is a population that became a magnet for scrutiny, unwanted scrutiny. Complicity has been placed on the back burner for now.

The result of the unwanted scrutiny is what is seen in the photo. It is not pretty and should have not happened if government had done its charge over the years.

Interesting Logic ! How long does a government has to ignore your illegal activities until the government it self's becomes responsible for them !?
The ones evicted that used their Income to create a better Home in Haiti have somewhere to go.
Not our problem that they run their country into the ground.
The ones who used it to have 15 children, F... them. Live is tough get a Helmet ! Not everybody can be born in Switzerland or Sweden.
The opposite example is Thailand. 50% of small businesses in Tourist areas are created by Thais that worked abroad and saved $ to have a better future in their county.
Haitians and Palestinians have at least one thing in common; never being responsible for what happens to them.
Anybody really serious about helping them; let a bunch of them live with you and your family.

Times appear to be a changing.

If they'd stop procreating like rabbits and clogging up the emergency rooms I think most Dominicans would have a bit more sympathy for these people.

I also heard from my kid's girlfriend's landlord in Bavaro that Boca Chica roundups will be starting tomorrow. Stay tuned. She just got her mom transported here from Perdenales. Mom is not well.

Probably not. But I can't go into any detail.
I wouldn't put that theory to test.
Team Luis is moving hard and fast. He is sending the international "community" a firm message. The Dominican Republic isn't responsible for Haiti's problems nor will it be in the future.

I think this message is primarily for the many critical Dominicans who think that not enough is being done. There is way more attention for these roundups locally than internationally. It already has become a Dominican problem.
