Paid cash 5 yrs ago for 2 bdrm villa in Green Village, Cap Cana (well, we all make mistakes!). Not completed, not working on it, no communication. Have contacted our original DR attorney, who wants $$$$ to pursue. Contacted another DR attorney who wants considerably less, but neither seems think we will have success in getting our money back any time soon, & more likely, never. Any options for us?

Much depends upon your contract and the enforcement of it (if possible). You definitely need an attorney to advise you. I'd see a good attorney like Guzman Ariza can just review the contract and facts. If there is something you can do, hire them to do it. If there is not really much you can do, I doubt it will cost you a peso for their advice.

If you are a US citizen, declare it an investment loss and deduct it from any other investment gains on your income taxes. If you salvage something later, enjoy it and pay the gain then.

You can't get money back, but sure as hell you can place a legal lien in the property title, which they will need to satisfy in order to carry any sale or "traspaso" of the same...

There are more things to also consider in this case, which only a good lawyer firm in the DR can provide you. Here in DR1 there's a reputable lawyer's firm that can help you in that.

Everything costs money! What did you expect? A fee-free lawyer to get a solution?
