Have tried to search through forum but was unable to find exact information I need. Can somebody please recommend a good hair stylist in Cabarete? I have no idea how my head should look like, so it would be cool to get a hair cut from professional with a good taste who might do something nice and stylish. Thanks in advance.

go see Ana

Go see Ana at Salon Ana in the center of town (across the street from Dick's bakery). She's good! 450 pesos for a men's cut... and always good.

$450 Rd !!!!!!!!

............go to Puerto Plata................there are barbers/stylists on EVERY corner if not more than one.................

and NEVER are any of them over $100.00

usually 70-80 peso and with a GOOD tip you get away with less than $150.RD..

AND THEY ARE VERY GOOD AT CUTTING HAIR................

I've been getting my hair cut for 15 years here and every time I have friends/family visit they all want their hair cut by POP barbers!

..........and I'm sure that Sosua / Cabarete have the same............I doubt if any male Dominican is going to pay $450.RD for a haircut

Edited to add: Just told my employees about the $450.RD haircut and they all started laughing!!!!

.........the two that I usually go to have a price list posted right on the mirror...............

........if you pay more or are charged more than that, then it's your own fault!!!!

They list, in Spanish, price for haircut, haircut and shave, eyebrows etc.........

and nothing is over $100...........which is for a haircut and shave..........

yes its 80 pesos for a buzz cutt......most dominican barbers don't know how to use scissors.....so if you go to salon ana in cabarete, she will cut your hair like a stylist in north america....but you pay for it...
I pay 80 pesos for a shave and buzz cut.....

I would challenge the comment about scissors. In any event women's hair salons also cut men's hair, using scissors - even in upmarket Bayardo at Salon Patrick's (Puerto Plata) a man's haircut is a little over 100 pesos with tip. I agree with POP Bad Boy. A buzz cut is a crew cut, yes? Well, in nearly 16 years of Puerto Plata haircuts BushBaby has never come home with a buzz cut once. I mean........he wouldn't want me to die laughing..........:cheeky:

i can also recommend Salon Ana. it's "expensive" compared to some other places but well worth the 450 RD.

Here in Higuey I go to one of the "upscale" peluqueria called "Bacan York". I pay $150 pesos for a haircut and shave, with tip it's 200 pesos. I receive great attention got friends with the barber (Monchy) and I can make phone appointments, etc. get a ring to "come now" to avoid wait, etc.

They have TV, cable, A/C, freezer w/beers, and use quality shave/after shave creams etc. They do machine cuts but on request (my) barber would use scissors.

Other barber shops may charge 100 pesos for the same thing, but it's the "experience" one pays for. You always are part of the great conversations going on, hear the latest "chismes", fun stories, etc. This is also a gathering place for many people so the place is never boring.

Re Salon Ana

Regarding Salon Ana - I never said she was inexpensive. She is darn good though... especially for a client who doesn't speak a lot of Spanish (she speaks several languages) and doesn't know what he wants (I always just tell her to cut my hair the way she thinks it will look best).

I've always been very happy with her work and have never minded paying her price... even though I know I could get it done for less elsewhere. Some people don't mind paying more for certainty, consistency and service.

Surely, we all have certain things that we don't mind paying more for.
