Starting Monday, 12 May 2025, Haiti announced it will be enforcing a new regulation that prohibits the entry of foreign goods through its land border with the Dominican Republic, Diario Libre reports.

The measure, announced by Haiti’s Customs Agency (AGD), has sparked concern among importers, transporters, and traders on both sides of the border. It was initially scheduled to take effect on 7 April but was officially communicated through Circular No. DAJ/BM/AGD/03-25/00479 issued by AGD under instructions from Haiti’s Ministry of Economy and Finance.

Henceforth, all foreign goods transiting through Dominican territory must enter Haiti exclusively via maritime routes for customs processing. Land border crossings between the Dominican Republic and Haiti will no longer accept such cargo starting Monday.

The Haitian government making life even more difficult for their own citizens, since goods crossing the land border must be the most efficient and cost-effective way to feed and look after the citizens. I suppose the idea is to restrict the arms coming in but it would be much better if they just started more effective searches of good and vehicles entering.

There is funny business going on. All this is doing is removing the shared corruption baton away from the land border mafias for the exclusive use of the ocean port mafias. It will not change the chaos. Expect some form of violent protest against AGD from agitators allied to the land border mafias.

Aren't most of the arms smuggled via ships to Haiti anyway ? This is going to make life harder for the small traders. Not sure how the border markets will work now. The minister's genius idea to combat gangs extorting $2000 per container is not to have containers crossing via roads ? May be they will blow up their ports next to avoid smuggling via ships

Clearly the "new" government is going to be just as bad as the last.

Talk about having low IQs.
