Wishing You Well, Haiti is a country that is owned by a few families, like the Brandts, for example. they have untold wealth, and influence. do you really believe they care if the man in the street has to pay more for eggs?they are making money on this gambit, trust me. they are feeling no pain. they cut off Dominican supply in order to make money by importing from another source. that is all there is to it. it has nothing to do with disease, which is a low grade ruse.

I do not disagree that Haiti is controlled economically by a few families just as the DR is and that the ban on eggs and poultry could not be held in place without them. The ban has actually been in place since 2008. Evidently there was no effort to have it lifted and the DR just went back to informal exports.

What Haiti needs are TAXES to support the governement. Digicell, the Irish phone company which set up in Haiti in 2006 is now the largest taxpayer. The effort on the part of Haitian authorities appears to be regulate the poultry commerce both to be able to certify it as safe, to protect their own internal production and to be able to tax it.

What they need to do is to make sure that the price of imported eggs is higher than the price of what it will cost Haitians to produce them in Haiti. New beginnings - Christian Aid
Also the person from the Haitian electric company who was here just issued a denial that she was here to buy electricy but to study how to avoid losses. as she had also been to Mexico before. She noted that no one would sell energy to Haiti Electric since they owed so much money.

Is this a sad commentary on the state of affairs. How could Haiti be so stupid as to not know the DR cannot supply itself?

Let's make believe that Haiti can pay with actual currency and not a UN food for oil program as the one currently being run between Venezuela and the DR. The DR gov't would gladly sell power for the right price and convince the DR populace that this would actually better the service back home. They'll say that they'll make more money in the sale and therefore have more money to invest in the failing system within the DR. Heck, they could convince the DR populace that the current electrical woes would be solved in short time by selling most of their power.

Now we all know this is ridiculous and is pure nonsense. The problem is that though it is garbage the DR gov't could initiate such a move and have the DR populace believe the reasons for such a ridiculous scheme. The DR gov't could have even more money besides all the loan money it currently has. I don't find it as an impossibility but a true option since the DR gov't is always looking for money as most gov'ts are. As Suary says look out for more blackouts in the near future if they go along in selling power.

Well if all this fails maybe the DR could sell candles to Haiti. The DR is quite efficient in the candle business. Has there ever been a shortage of candles? I can not remember there ever being a candle shortage. Electricity is scarce, spotty and dangerous within the DR with voltage rising and dropping suddenly. But, candle supplies within the DR have always been plentiful. That is an offer the DR gov't and business interests can make to Haiti. We can supply you with all the candles you need and we guarantee safe candle lest they ban them too.

There is an adage If you dont see the sucker at the poker table you are it. This will be a case of one selling non existent power to someone who will not pay for it.
