sorry, skynet, the thread has gone a bit sideways so i did not respond to this question... we use a kind of a candle in a blass or plastic box. looks something like this:
poland has a long tradition of celebrating the 1st of november. first pagan it was adapted by church since it could not have been eradicated. previously people would visit the graves of the loved ones with food and drinks, leaving small offerings on the graves. later on it became candles, as to light up the way for the souls. the tradition dictates that today no grave can be forgotten. so people buy extra candles to light on the old tombs no one visits anymore. cemeteries are open all night.
