The shipping company I am using now told me that if I want to import anything more than $200 just let them know in advance and they will see what can be done in terms of paying taxes . I guess they have a chat with a friend in Aduanas and they do a deal. So that's another option for items over $200.

🤔🤔 … time to take this for a test drive ….the shipping costs seem to be baked into the price …fair enough ….and for items heavier than 10 pounds…maybe a good deal .

So , Heinz baked beans 12 pack for the kids …. a sack of Organic jasmine rice …para la suegra…both under $50 …and currently costing more than double the item price to ship 😩….If that works out …the electric roaster oven🤤 , gadgets and car parts over 10 pounds will be is next !🤫
I tried to buy Campbells Hearty Soups but there isn't any available.

Edit: Now I've looked for a few other things like Zatarain's Family Size Jambalaya and everything comes up as unavailable.

But, when I check Amazon they have stock on everything I've looked for. Odd.

Out of curiosity I went browsing for a lawn chair on Amazon and then compared the exact same on Tiendamia. Very interesting. Actually cheaper delivered to my door than buying direct off Amazon and shipping it over.

😳…just found that they have a 5kg limit…so may not be worth it for heavy items after all …definitely not worth it for la suegra’s sack of jasmine rice.😩

So , told our shipper about tiendmia…and his response was…” I know , we can do the same “😳 … So ..wait , you’ve been charging us the rate per pound for heavy items all these years …and you could have done a fixed fee for heavy items ? …😩…He gave us this look like …😁😬” my grandkids like nice things too “ …..

So the new deal is …fixed fee …in advance ….for items over 10 pounds….and free shipping for la suegra’s jasmine rice and the glossy red Kitchenaid she likes …because he thinks she’s “special “..Ew.😬

$169.99 plus the shipping.........
That is why you have Amazon Prime. Then your other shipping costs would be whatever a freight forwarder charges from Miami or elsewhere.

I know Tiemdamia has been around since 2014 and has a larger prersence in S. America.........but with all the cargo companies/Mudanzas shipping to the DR, it will be interesting to see if their business model can survive here.

I doubt a mudanza would hip that chaise for $24..........

Couriers are ~300DOP/lb
You are correct. I paid $25 a piece.........and that was from Massachusetts. Remember with a Mudanza it is not the weight.........but the volume. As mine were flat and boxed (much like the ones above) they took up little space in the container.

That having been said, I do not see the business model of the company working well here.

We will see...... there might be special cases where it works well.... better than others but I'm not going to run a million examples trying

Exactly............nor are most people...........unless they can consistently deliver a majority of items...........faster, better, cheaper. Absent that, people will have little incentive to switch companies.

One advantage they may have is that one of the company owners (ticker symbol PANL) has a small fleet of ships. whereas the current majority of freight forwarders to the DR contract out their shipping. This may give them a time advantage edge.

Time will tell.

BMCargo charges 154 pesos/lb plus ITBIS........ so take it from there

3.2lbs cost me 795 pesos
2.15 was 581

I think that's a lot
