Lawyer and writer Federico Jovine Bermudez writes in Listin Diario that the Abinader administration’s Km 9 road improvements are a tale of broken promises and impunity. He recounts the many times that Minister of Public Works Deligne Ascención, or his deputies, have come forth to announce completion dates for the road section. The Km 9 grid is where the the country’s main highway (Duarte) heads north from the capital city, but it is also the point where Greater Santo Domingo’s bypasses interconnect, making it the most traveled in the country.

In his opinion piece in Listin Diario, Jovine complains that the minister lies about the completion dates, offers no explanations for the delays and that there are no consequences.

Jovine recalls that on 24 February 2022, President Luis Abinader launched the expansion of the Duarte Highway’s Km 9 interconnection...

Not to worry. Here on the north coast we have
1) Thousands of people living on public park wetlands filled in by former mayor and "sold" to the inhabitants of the area called La Cienaga
2) A promise to build the Cabarete Bypass unfullfilled
3) A promise to improve route 5 from Puerto Plata through Rio San Juan to 4 lanes unfulfilled
4) A promised to build a new highway to connect between La Grand Parada to Santiago unfufilled
5) Insufficient water supply from CORAAPPLATA
6) We still have EDENORTE, 'nuff said on that topic to make the point
7) Unregulated growth of new condos and villas.

So Santo Trafficjam, don't feel so bad about Km 9. The north coast is the forgotten bastard child of the DR
except for the attempted cleanups in isle 3 regarding Sosua's poor reputation and the damage that little bastard does to the DR.

It's hard to disagree with your points, except for point 7, where I would say the new condos and villas are regulated, but the regulators frequently turn a blind eye if given enough encouragement.

Yes, well, that is what I mean, of course, by unregulated since I know what can be done with enough $$$$.
So I think number 7 stands based upon that reality.

The only failure on that $$$$ issue so far has been three different blocked projects at La Boca in Cabarete.
The Miracle Mile, stopped. A Tropical Tech Park, stopped and most recently the Ritz Carlton Reserve Boutique hotel , stopped
All by the environmental ministry, but after the fish shacks were removed at La Boca where locals went on weekends.

Promises by politicians - in every country - are just lies-for-votes.
Hookers are more trustworthy than politicians - and take less of your money
