IrishColleen.....This will be our 6th visit to the old Jack Tar. We always found it to be a "comfortable" place to be and enjoyed meeting people from around the world. I remember you from last year. We arrive Feb. 15. I hope Maximo is still there.

It's Ron !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am back. Sorry everyone, I had to work this past Friday and all day today. I also needed some time with my kids as my wife and I really missed them.

Wow, I guess I haven't replied since I met planner. Boy oh Boy, I lit it up that night. I would say I met almost the entire resort that night. It was fun.

I saw nor heard that anyone was "really" sick. I had some stomach cramps at the start of vacation. My fault I assume as I went to the oriental restaurant and had the sushi. I don't eat sushi so I am not sure why I had it down there. Anyways it past in about a day or so. Another then that, we found the food really good. Lot's of variety in the buffet (not sure why people are saying the opposite. I would like to see what they make for break, lunch and dinner in a week. If they are able to make 7 separate dishes each day of the week, then I WANT TO MOVE IN WITH YOU :):) )

Overall, I had a blast. I met alot of people all of whom were really nice. The beach is great (although if the waves are rough, keep kids out) but you walk down the beach near the other resorts and the waves are almost not there. My wife and I enjoyed the waves, so we had a great time.

Hmmm, what else. Rooms were great, service was the best we have ever had, drinks were ok ( again, I'm not fussy ). Never had issues booking a la carts.

Thanks for everyone though that have been asking for me :):)

I can make a detailed review, but I would need a little longer then I have now.

Just a quick note that I got back fine ( flippin cold though ).

Hi Planner, it was great to meet you, sorry I was a little drunk when that happened, but I do remember the odd thing or two. I tried to post before you, but I was trying to find my wife at the buffett. It seems like eveyrone knew that I was drunk as we had to cancel the caribean rest due to my drunkness :):):). Everything is all good though. She wasn't mad at me lol.

I'll post as much as I can tomorrow (Sun), so in the mean time if you want questions answered please ask them, and if I know I will post.

Ron

Couldn't resist - we had the Leafs game on at work.

One note concering some reports of sickness .. there were a number of folks in our group from our area in Southern Ontario who got ill from more than travellers runs either down in the HV or on the way home. It had nothing to do with being in the DR - there was a noro type virus already going around in our area around the time we left in late December, so we were exposed to it at home before going down to HV. So some of the folks in the DR may actually have been exposed to an "imported" bug from home. Several other members of our family who didn't go down with us also got sick with the same gastro-intestinal symptoms at the same time as us. A close friend of mine who is a family doctor in Waterloo said he had quite a few patients with similar symptoms earlier this month as well.

Do you think we might actually get close to the playoffs this year?
We will see you down there. I have to have my VINO> I will be visiting the duty free as well! Check out the entertainment............I know there are problems there folks, so do some of the entertainers! But we will be attached to the tall redhead! Let's get together. A cerveza hoisted for the "buds" is always in order!

Agreed - and please folks, get involved with the interactive shows! You'll have a great time, and so will the entertainers (Carly, John to name a couple).

for anyone who has been
me and the wife like to sit on the balcony and have a game of cards and a few drinks when the kids go to bed.
are the bars close enough to pop down and keep getting refills ?
or would they serve you a few drinks to take up ?
or would it be best to get some duty free on the way out

A quick note about the baby pack.

Has anyone actually used it? What type of stroller is included - is it a banana type one or a full size stroller. This makes a difference to us as our little one will be sleeping in it at times and we want one that is more of a full size stroller so he can lay down.

There was also some comments about lack of highchairs in the buffet. Are you guaranteed one if you purchase the baby pack.

Any comments would be great appreciated.

It won't make any difference to go down the beach. The entire area will be the same. If it is too rough for the kids - go back to the wave pool, they will love it.

happyholiday - depends where your room is! Don't worry the excercise will do you good. And yes you can take some back to your room......

Hockey - don't make me hurt you guys..... a hockey thread won't happen as it has to be DR related - remember...... ;)

Home from HV....

Hi All,

We have been back about a week now from HV and here are my views......

We had a very enjoyable holiday and we found all of the staff to be extremly helpful and friendly.

We had a junior suite and it was fabulous and we had maids in a minimum of once a day! We would arrive back to our room in the early hours and the beds had been turned down! Not sure if there have been pics of the junior suite so if not let me know and i can put some on.

The upgrade was definiately worth it and lots of standards people moaning. A few problems with 'orange' bands drinking in the adult pool area and then kicking up a right stink when asked to move. We and others found it difficult to understand why there was such a confusion.....some 'orange' band folk rather rude. We paid for the upgrade so we deserved the priviledge.

We saw the wedding gazebo. If I was to get married there i would be extremly disappointed. The location of the gazebo is astonishing. You are looked over (quite closely) by golfers, apartments, the nursery, the the landing area for the zip slide!!

We made 6 reservations for the restaurtants and the Caribbean opened on our 2nd week. We ate on their opening night and it was excellent. The best restaurant by far on the resort. We wouldnt recommend you bother with the Mexican.

We had trouble with stomach cramps and sickness. It was a pain and it was a 24hr thing! But we have suffered with this abroad before. Hey ho!

Previous visitor of the Jack Tar were disappointed with the changes. And the entertainment was absolutely shocking. Very bad indeed, although they try hard it is quite embarrassing for such a large company like First Choice to allow it to continue.

That was my thoughts and we had an enjoyable 2 weeks and met some really lovely people

Hi Everyone

Does anyone know if the adult bar shows english football (soccer), there will be about 20 of us arriving in may and we are all avid football (soccer) fans. Was hoping we would be able to catch the English FA Cup Final while we were there.
