I've been there from Dec 23-30, 06 for the first time to DR. I found the resort is nice and comfy, but not luxury, mory family oriented. They got a lot for kids, chess, ping pong, kid's club, swimming, soccer, nite show, etc. But night entertainment for adult is not much, only bingo, and a couple singers sing and dance on stage, not the caribbean type show, the performer didn't dress up their caribbean costumes to perform, so nothing special at all, a bit disappoint. The pools are okay, but not big and deep, like they are mainly for kids, but wave pool and water slides are fun. Beach is not what I expect, the water not clear and many sea grasses, also many sea grasses all over the beach too, make it look like very dirty, so I don't swim much there, I rather go to Sousa beach, much better water, very clear and clean. And me and my husband find the room is nice and comfy, but they still using their old furnitures, i guess they only renovate the bathroom, but the room hasn't done much on it. Staffs are nice and polite. They usually refill your water daily to your room when they see empty bottle in your room, so don't woory, you don't have take bottle and refill yourself. And actually they got some extra features that not listed in signature brouchure. They have coffee maker and mini fridge with beer and soft drinks inside. So overall, it is pretty good resort, except the beach is a bit disappoint to me. If the beach is nicer, I will stay in resort more time to swim and sunbath, but me and my husband rather join excursion to sousa beach and paradise island to do that.

I really don't know what people have to moan about. If you go around looking for faults then you will find them, you will in any hotel.

Things are still being done but I will it say it again, this hotel is excellent, food is good, entertainment is good, kids club is fantastic.

Just come and have a good time.

We are a group of 3 families and not one of us has anything to complain about.

If you want to have a rubbish holiday, go around with a piece of paper and a camera and look for all the minor faults. You will find them, and you never know when you get home you might get something off next years holiday. ;)

Holidays are what are you make them.

Get a life moaners!!!!!

I don't know how to say this without someone taking offense, so up front I will say that I do not mean any slight to any poster here.

I am sick of people on here who are implying that those of us who have bad experiences at this resort enjoy complaining about it. No one who is pointing out the numerous problems gains anything from future visitors not going to to this place. Everyone who posts negative reviews is doing so for YOUR sake, to try to prevent you wasting your valuable holiday money/time on a place that simply doesn't deserve it.

I have been to many a "developing country" and have stayed in far superior resorts, where the staff are actually trying to help you, instead of trying to find anyway they won't have to deal with you. So please, stop with the, "This is the way things work in these places." because it's not. If all you've ever experienced are resorts on this scale, then you've been ripped off.

Take it or leave it. The place is bad news and we will never return to a Holiday Village.

PS, someone above had an excellent point, something I hadn't considered. I now believe that many of the positive posts have to be coming from someone employed by the resort. There really isn't any other explanation in my mind.

or the other side of the table:

all the negitive stuff is coming from people that are from the UK :)

-- I'll explain a tad more ---

The UK people are iin fact paying ALOT more then us, the Canadians. They have an 8hr flight, and us only 4hr approx.

Now I am not saying just the UK people are complaining, cause I have heard Canadians complain as well, but most seem to be coming from across the pond.

BTW - I do in fact agree with you that people are posting for everyones benefit, and for everything I would like to say thank you.

Ottawa Senators.

Jan 18th can't come soon enough. The drive to Toronto though could wait. :) We will be at the airport at around midnight with a check-in at 3am for a flight at 6am. Talk about eager beavers.

Toronto People, anything open around midnight around the airport? other then Timmies ?

I Think you will find if you spend 30 minutes in Lobby that all these complaints are not coming from Brits ....Many Canadians too that are very unhappy....

If people only want to hear the positive news then why are you reading the threads on the internet can i ask?.......why not just go with an open mind and find out for yourself?.......

Finding out the "negatives" can be of use to you people who have not yet travelled because it is helpful to know that you will need extra cash ...etc....

If you haven't been then how do you know the condition of the resort?

Is it usual to have the resorts sewage (not your own or your families) swimming in your room, at other resorts?

The reason there is people without the rooms requested etc and people not having a room to stay in at all is quite simple!...there are people experiencing major problems with rooms so having to reaccomadate to other rooms -leaving a shortage of rooms....

That might be a problem spending 30 minutes in the lobby listening. I think I may be too drunk to comprehend anything :):)

Sewage Sucks. Period.

thanks to everyone who have left comments good or bad we got in touch with first choice who phoned the rep at hvg and they said every thing was fine except for a plumbing problem and that no one had made acomplaint so needless to say we have moved because it just did not ring true what they told us

And yes it is fair to say that we pay ALOT more...
Going three days without any hot water.......
Spending four days in a room with a toilet that is constantly leaking puddles...then finally backs up sewage which floods the entire room and your belongings .......
Going 8 days without AC ...
Advertising services shown as facilities but not yet built or working-is false advertising.........

All these above things do not allow you to have a relaxing holiday.........
Why do we go on holiday?- To have fun as a family - to relax and to escape stresses.........Not to walk in to stresses.........
Spending Xmas in those conditions is not comforting.........

If you or your family experience any of the above then how will you feel?
And i agree with Planner in an earlier post- it is not the reps fault -they are there purely to "try" to help...It is the main companies at fault for not advising customers before they depart...Instead they take the approach to bury their heads in the sand and hope things will smooth out......

Just FYI, we are Canadians.

I would say that the majority of folks while we were there were from Canada, with the rest being from the UK.

One quick story, brought on by the above comment where First Choice denied there being any compaints.

We were standing in the complaint queue at the Signature desk with about 7 or 8 people ahead of us. The way it works is they bring one group in at a time and sit at a desk behind a glass door. So one couple, a middle aged couple from Kitchener, ON were inside and their complaints were very audible. Eventually, they got steamed and walked out. The next couple went in, but didn't close the door behind them. The queue is arranged in such a way that it was impossible for the young Signature rep to see that anyone was waiting.

Anyway, this couple begins their list of complaints and the Signature rep tells them this is the first he's heard of any problems. No one else has had ANY problems there that week! So of course, the couple then informs him that we all heard his previous conversation, and then everyone in line then starts in on him, reminding him that he's been listening to nothing but our complaints all week! He stammered and turned beet red, finally telling us that was what he was told to say!! Boy, did he ever get a tongue lashing. Finally, when one brash fellow told him he'd have his job, the young rep informs us he, "Can't be fired." Merry Christmas to us.

You see, THIS is why people are ticked. Not only did we have to wait 6 hours (until 5am!) for a room on first night, not only are some of the rooms in poor shape, not only is the place a ghost town in the evenings due to the only entertainment being junior high school pageants, but the reps continued to lie straight to our faces!

well we fought before we left with regards to the adults only area, and won so to speak. we got upgraded due to misinformation. We did have to pay a little extra, but hopefully the money is worth it.

I think I am just going to sit at the pool and drink. That way you avoid any issues (other then the sewage in the rooms, which would make me go NUTZ).

Signature has issues with this place. I betcha they are having there own internal nightmare on this, that we will never see (although would be fun to know what is going on in closed doors.)

BTW - I like stirring the pot, so if you get easily offended you might want to reconsider reading my posts. I like to get people talking.

At the end of the day - We will go, We will drink, We will go on an excursion, We will go into town, We will eat, and We will enjoy ourselves the best way possible. We are bring a deck of cards. Thats all the entertainment I need in the evening, other then play time with the better half :):):):):) NO KIDS coming with us, so put it this way ............ We will have fun no matter what. Having a break is a blessing.

i am sure your want to get 60 pages on this thread.

i am from the uk and never had cause to complainabout a holiday yet.

spire2000, some people do value other comments put on the thread and listen to what is being said.

i dont think the hotel should have opened until fully complete.

we only paid the same ammount to go here than to spain (2 hour flight).

I am from the uk and i am no moaner.

I have to agree We have paid a lot of money to go there. But as darwenlass said I have been to spain, majorca, etc etc etc yet it cost me the same price to go to turkey self catering with my family as it has done to come to the caribbean all inclusive resort.

Im not worried about reports just glad to get an insight.

Cant Wait Lovin it 115 days to go and counting.

Has anybody seen any of the weddings taking place there yet as I am gettin married there I would love to know ur oppinions on them

I joined and started reading this forum shortly before our trip to HV on Dec 19th. I was very appreciative for the information that was posted by people who had just returned. I then returned and posted our review and have been very upset reading how people are telling us to stop complaining. We took our time to give our honest opinion of the resort and seem to have gotten nothing but complaints from people who haven't gone yet, telling us we should have just enjoyed our time instead of looking for things that are wrong. We weren't looking for these things, they happened to us, and thought this info would be helpful for people planning their trips. I guess we were wrong and maybe next time I won't bother posting good or bad. I look forward to reading about those people who complained and see if they still say just drink and have a good time when they come back. I am not saying I hope you have a bad holiday but maybe once you are there you will agree with the issues that are ongoing there. Because of the complaints to signature and first choice by those of us that have already been, maybe those of you travelling soon will have some of these issues taken care of before you get there.

We Are Asking For Fair Reviews.

hi beachski,

i for one are enjoying reading the review good and bad. by the time i go in oct hopfully they will all be sorted.
i dont think most people mind the bad reviews but some good things (if any:cheeky: ) where written as well.
i do know of a report being put on a forum complaining about this and that when the person was NOT even staying at the hotel.

nobody is saying your wrong as it was your holiday and if things were not right or up to your standard then you have the right to ask for it to be fixed if possible.

i cant wait to read more reviews as they come.

feel better now ive got that off my chest.

24 hour all-inclusive?

The brochures say it is a 24 hour all inclusive. Has anyone who has been there had trouble getting snacks or drinks late at night.
