Can't wait to hear reviews of Holiday Village. We're from the states and it is not available through any of the travel sites. We've been to Javk Tar abut 6 times and love the size and layout. We started going there because it was adults only but that had changed the last time we were there. I love the idea of the adults only are. Please let me know what it's like.

Hello Planner: All your help is much appreciated. Myself and friends will be at Breezes end of January as well as HV Week before March break, 2 weeks, Myself (single dad)and daughter(12). Looking forward to trip. We are bringing school supplies so contact info would be great.I guess you have way to get supplies to right people. I have been to DR many times,so know the need is great and they really do appreciate the help. Also if anyone visits Sosua you can give cash donation at Midway(Canadian Bar),fill out a heart card with your name and they will post it on pole out front. They have sent many children to school from generous donations. It was done last year so hope they still do.Thanks Planner

Long Post And Photos

HI folks, I have just returned from a tour of the hotel. It is nice! They have done a good job with what they were working from.

The bad news: you can ONLY book this hotel via Signature Vacations from Canada and First Choice out of the UK. Apparently there is no other way to book. SO all of you long term lovers of Jack Tar, I am sorry to say you no longer have options other then the tour operator. And you cannot buy land only, they are packaged only.

Staff: it appears to be a mix of some of the old staff and lots of new ones. No one from Animation is back. All entertainment and animation staff are from Canada or England we were told. I have an invitation to go back and check out the shows.

The beach is stunning, there are photos to check out. The wave pool, adult only pool and activity pool are nice.

The new lounge is stunning. Wow, and nicely air conditioned too. They have a building for the teenagers to hang out in (great idea) that will be supervised until 11 pm.

I could not get into the rooms this time. I was told the family rooms have connecting doors though. I will try to get more info later in the week.

Okay here are the photos with some descriptions:

Holiday Village Information

Thanks for the great pictures Planner! I have mentioned this on a couple of other forums but thought people here might be interested. My daughter Carly is working there this winter as a member of the entertainment staff. The resort is now open. Carly says everything is beautiful. The splash/wave pool is terrific for the kids, staff are all very nice and the guests have been arriving every day. In preparing for the job, the entertainers( 3 from England, 3 from Canada) have visited the Ocean Park( and experienced a Dolphin and a Sea Lion encounter) which they really loved. She has also been on the Outback Safari, through the country to a typical Dominican village and home, along with a picnic and a swim. She raved about this tour. Carly has also been working on the bungee area......a great fun hit! The shows are ready to go. The 3 girls from Canada have all trained in dance, vocal and drama at professional schools in Ontario. She has not given me the background on the British entertainers, but says their vocals are amazing and they are all really happy to be performing for everyone. She says they had to learn the choreography, scripts and music for all shows in three weeks. A bit rough, but it is coming together well. There is "Friday Night Fever," disco,
"Legends of Las Vegas" complete with showgirls in fabulous costumes and fun pantomimes for all. Say hi to Carly when you get there....tall redhead from Canada! What a way to spend the winter! Anyone going the week of Feb 3?

Planner: Many thanks for the wonderful pictures you have posted. We are going to the HV in July 2007 and having stayed at the HV on the Costa del Sol (July 2003) when it first opened, was a bit apprehensive about this one. When we found out it was the old JTV, we breathed a sigh of relief as at least the buildings were already standing. Anyway, it looks really good and cannot wait to get there!!!

Linda: Sounds like your daughter will know exactly what she is talking about at the "Welcome" talk if she has done all the main trips. My daughter works for First Choice back here in England but only on the "selling" side of things!!!

Anyone going July 22nd 2007?

Planner: Great pics, thanks. Can hardly wait to get there. Internet has definately spoiled us for being able to see pictures of where you are going. You feel very disconnected when you can't see any, so thanks for keeping us connected.

No that is the height of our summer season. It will be predominantly British during that time. I think it would be a great time to bring your neices.

I saw some preliminary info from Signature (a subsidiary of First Choice) in Canada and the plan is for them (First Choice and Signature) to populate the resort with 70% Canadians and 30% Brits in the winter and 70% Brits and 30% Canadians in the summer.

October is our shoulder season down here. My guess is that during both shoulder seasons they will have a mix closer to 50 / 50 but any given day it could be different.

In this country High winter season is just before Christmas till just after Easter or Mid April whichever is later. High summer season starts about June 15th and runs till about September 15. Any year those dates can move around up to one month.

Our shoulder seasons are everything in between. And we are getting less and less shoulder season as we are becoming more touristed year round.

I think Planner 's got it pretty well covered. Shoulder season is when resorts are either at less than full capacity or the rates are discounted to simply fill rooms. In either case the client mix is somewhat difficult to predict and can fluctuate from week to week. Given that the plan is to use a Canadian/Brit mix I think you can safely assume that this will continue through the shoulder season and on into the next high season.

Hi Planner!

Thank you so much for all the info and pics!

When you said the family rooms are connected by a door, does that mean within one family room, the two sides are connected by a door, or you would have had to book two family rooms that are connected by a door? Did that make sense? ha ha

Thanks!!
Dawn
