Planner thank you for the hot sun hours, on the ocean issues, is there a strong undertoe? I love to swim but like to do it in safty. Thanks again for all your help and if you don't mind me asking where are you from origionally? I thought maybe u were a DR native but from a recent post I think perhaps not! Have a great day

April

Never have seen a strong undertow at Playa Dorada (one day early this month the waves were close to 2 m high with some undertow, but not overly strong or persistent).

However when you get larger waves (3-4 m), always be prepared for possibility of undertows, and practice the usual water safety with these.

Hope this helps.

Wow !

We are leaving the 3rd of Feb. for 1 week. Thanks to all of you who took the time to speak to Carly ( entertainment staff). You have no idea what these kids go through to make your stay enjoyable! 12 hour days are the norm added to the fact they have a half hour walk to work and then back each day( after midnight.

Thanks to all who posted pics and especially to Planner for her input and the time she has taken to answer all of our questions. We are planning a fun trip and time to reconnect with our daughter. The D.R is filled with interesting and fun people who can introduce you to a whole new world. Enjoy the people. They are Wonderful. We have visited many times and are aware that things are not always as they are at home, but if you give it a chance..............this may very well be the trip of a lifetime. Remember, you are not at home, but that is okay. Live and learn. It is the only way to see the world.

Hi, I am goonergirls sister, I have posted my review on trip advisor so you may want to have a read but it says pretty much the same as my sisters review on here.
In response to the question about swimming in the dark, I don't think you are allowed to after a certain time, to be honest I doubt you would want to anyway as the mossie's start to attack after about 4 or 5pm! We took a really high deet as well but they still loved to feast on us.
If you do like a good wine I would suggest you take a bottle with you, I really missed my wine while I was there as I couldn't drink the hotels. On our last night however we did go to a restaurant called Cafe Cito, this had some really good food and wine, it is definately worth a visit.

i dont know if any other of us brits has received one but this morning i got a letter from 1st choice to clarify that:::
1)the beds in the kids den or bunk beds and not single beds.
2)the adult only royal suites vip area and all its facilities are only available to customers who have booked the royal suite rooms.

fist choice letter

My family got the same letter reference the Royal Suites, Luckily there is only me and future hubby staying in the VIP area so it didnt really matter as they all knew that anyway. They have obviously had complaints from people unable to use the facilitys.

Another Sens Fan:

This is why I love this thread. Thank you much for this information. I hope we're not too late, but we are going to try to order the baby pack. We are there for two weeks, but are leaving next week. We have been stressing over should we or shouldn't we take a stroller, and just trying to pack with two kids and make the weight requirements, especially when there is limited availability to laundry. Man.

Thanks again.

Woody - since there is limited laundry - I would take the suggestion that I read quite a few pages ago and bring some liquid dish soap (I already have some packed too) - at least you could wash things in the sink if need be (and with 2 small kids you can pretty much guarantee you'll have to! ;)

Also pack a night light or 2 - if the rooms are dark and with kids in a different place - its always a comfort. One in the bathroom never hurts either - especially when stumbling around in the middle of the night.

Enjoy your trip! We are leaving till the end of March - I'd love to hear what you think of it. We are travelling with 4 kids and staying in the family rooms.

Planner does the weather report every morning - if you go into back to the main index - there is a forum called Weather and she has a report there. Here is the link

Hope that helps,

Woody,
If you are in the family rooms over by the wave pool, it's a long walk for a toddler to the restaurant, beach, etc. It's not included in your luggage weight, and you can gate check it so it doesn't get damaged. You could also use it in the airports to tote all your carry-on luggage around. If you kids are under 3, I would bring the stroller!

Great suggestions. I will share them with my wife. Good ideas. Since you are staying in a family room, then you are in luck. We will be staying in a family room, and I have made a commitment to post pictures of the inside of one. Can't say that I Will be able to post from the report, but if not I can assure you that I will post some when I get home.

I just spoke to a woman at the resort this morning. I believe her name was Emma. She sounded British. Very helpful and very friendly. She indicated that if we have pre purchased the baby pack then we are assured to get one.

If anyone needs the direct dial number for the resort, just pm me and I'll give it to you.

Ice Cubes
I also asked her about the ice cubes as I had posted here a couple of pages ago. She says that the water used for ice is purified, which I suspected, and she said that she uses the ice all the time. Considering I do enjoy my rye and ginger, without ice it just wouldn't be the same :)

6 more days!!!

We want to have a stroller for sure. We have just pre-arranged for a stroller included in a Baby Pack thanks to "Another Sens Fan". I had no idea this was available. We are not 100% that we have the pack confirmed yet, but we are crossing our fingers. Thanks for the advice. We also have a kids backpack to haul my kid through the airport :)

Woody.

Temperatures

I have a program called the weather eye downloaded to my desktop..it shows the current temp for my home town and also the current temp in POP..

Right now its 45 degrees warmer in POP..lol..minus 15 here in Nova Scotia..plus 30 in POP...

This program serves as a nice reminder why I like to get away..lol

Planner:

Can you tell me, can I get access to the internet using my own note book computer while at the resort? If so, it will make it much easier to upload some pictures to this board. The Family room seems to be of interest to many.
