I know that if you fly from Canada or the US you cannot lock your suitcase. They will just cut them off. Don't store any valuables in your suitcase. Don't bring anything that you would not want to lose.(like your hockey jersey "Go Vancouver Canucks") (LOL) If you need to bring it put it in your carry on. Remember when you are on vacation you don't need any fancy jewwlry etc.

2nd hand review!

Hello All.....

My travel agent called me today with a review of the HV that a couple in my town gave to her.

They had no plumbing or cleanliness issues. The food was just ok, but the drinks were great. Staff was friendly. Beach was fantastic. The drink/restaruant by the beach was almost completed. The resort is still under renovations.

On their way home, (before Christmas) there was a huge line of people waiting in the lobby for rooms.....perhaps the overbookings......??

hopefully that overbooking period was a one-time accident, and all the plumbing issues have now been resolved.

We fly out from Toronto Jan 18....I believe it is with OttawaSens.....:)

Hope this is helpful!

i always bring a carton of cigarette with me in my bag that i take on the plan

is there a rule on how many packs of cigarettes if any one can bring to the dr? Are you better to just by them duty free on the plane. Two years ago my husband just put his carton in his luggage, is that supposed to be a no no?

i always pack a carton on my plane bag, have never been bothered, i travel from canada :)

Locks

If you are connecting in the US do not lock your suitcase. Any one on this thread going to be there Feb2-8th? I also would love to put faces to names. Especially --Planner. I have never "blogged" on the Internet before. This is a first. I feel like a kid with a whole bunch of pen pals!

Is there a big promotion going on for this resort? I have to say I've never seen so many posts on one hotel, not even the good ones

Hi , we are new to this site, but have been to the Dominican a few times. A few hints that might help, bring a room freshener, in the tropical climate things can get musty. Hand sanitizer is a good idea. Bring a large insulated beverage mug, saves trips to the bar. LOL We have found that all of the resorts that we have stayed in use purified water for ice cubes, so not to worry there. The toilet paper issue, these places are on there own sewage systems, so be careful what you flush (kleenex is not good), just like you were living on an acreage in Canada, with your own septic system. So don't be surprised if it is single ply. LOL Lighting you may find dim in your room, again some resorts supply their own power, so it may not be like it is at home. We always lock our suitcases, and have never had any problems, leave valuables at home. The Dominican is a fun friendly place, just use comon sense.
We are heading to the HV on the 8th of Feb. We are watching the forum closely, hope to see some of you there. We are in the Royal Suites. I'll buy the first drink !!

Clues to identity!!!

All posters on this site should have some sort of identifying ribbon to allow others to recognize them. How about wearing a red ribbon somewhere on your attire?

Hey Mountie,
My family (husband, two daughters, sister, her husband, and two sons) will be on the same flight from Halifax! We are staying in the Family Rooms. Can't wait for the sun and drinks! This will be our third trip to Puerto Plata and love it there.

What great luck to find this forum.I have picked up some great hints as to make sure my families vacation will be smooth sailing. You have to expect a few drawbacks to a hotel that has just recently been renovated,so I'm not too stressed(Man I'll be stoked just to see green again,so sick of snow already)thanks again for the suggestions.
