Hi planner hope your well on tripadvisor dated 26th February there is a bad report about several rooms being broken into by the staff and items stolen is there any truth in this have you heard anything.

dont worry mate i was there at the time, not that im making light of people losing valuebles but if you leave expensive gear lying around your room and opportunist theif will take it. the hotel is like others where a computer key card opens your room and any member of staff with access to a computer could more than likely gain enrtry to any room its the same worldwide , so use a safe for money and documents even things like gameboys, leave laptops at home as the hotel as plenty of computers and dont get complacent. i heard the rumour when i was there and reported what we heard to the first choice staff who were less than helpful, the next evening we returned to our room to find a maid turning down our bed which had not happend the two previous nights again i reported this and was told it was normal but it was about the same time as the reported thefts the previous evening so we took it upon ourselves to ask that the second made didnt come as the first had done such a good job , myself and my girlfriend didnt lose anything as we were very careful about valuebles but we didnt have anything that couldnt be locked in the safe and kept the safe key with us at all times. still not sure what the point of the second maid is ? but to us we would rather not have staff coming in twice especially when we could be out for several hours and return back after one or two drinks!! keep valubles in thase and you will have a great time no worries

myself and my girlfreind were there at the time and heard the rumour we reported this to first choice staff who didnt want to know!! because it was around 8.00 we were surspicious as we had returned to our room the same evening to find a differnt maid doing nothing else apart from turning down a bed that was already made. the next day we again reported this and were told it was normal, so for our own protection we asked for the second maid not to come because we spoke to and trusted the maid who did our room every day around 4.30 to a high standard. we didnt have any problems not that im blaming the second maid for anything i just didnt see the point. for saftey dont bring laptops as you cant lock them in the safe, there is plenty of computers on site if you need to use a computer. expensive kids toys like gameboys ext. should always go in the safe after use(i know not always practical) but saftey first! same goes for money and documents and keep the safe key with you at all times and for sure you will have a good time, same thing worldwide you can have 99% honest staff and it just take one opportunist theif to help themselfs to ruin what should be a relaxing holiday have fun and be safe

To all of you who are asking "wedding" questions, you might get more answers on the "Weddings" thread in this forum. It was started so that all the wedding information would be in one area.

Hope that helps!;)

Thanks

Thanks to all who posted help re ocean world.

Is it better to book over internet or wait until we arrive?

If it's 1/2hour from the hotel how much would a taxi cost?

Any other tips on good trips to do would be greatly appreciated.

Thx all.

Ocean world provides return transportation and you don't need to book ahead of time.

Theft - is a problem in all hotels everywhere. Be smart - don't leave stuff out where it is easly accessible. Use the room safes!!!

I will post some photos later that stevnic sent me.

How big are the room safes?

Hi we were planning on bringing our portable dvd player and a handheld Nintendo DS to amuse the little one mostly in the airport waiting the 3hr before flights etx. Will these fit in the room safe?
thanks

What is the age of people that go here?

Hi There

I have been reading all these posts and one thing I don?t really understand is why some people didn?t do any research before going to the hotel. My friends and I (a group of 7 ages 20-27) are leaving March 24th and before we booked we read all the trip advisors, all the posts and so on, so really we have no concerns, we know what we are getting in to when it comes to the adult only section, the food and the renovations. We even know that once you get there you are able to upgrade to adult activities without actually staying in the adult area, for a price, of course.

My only questions is, and this is something that we didn?t really see on any post, is how old the people that go to this hotel are? We have all been to hotels where there was nobody our age to hang out with, and that wasn?t nearly as much fun as a rowdy group of people drinking.

We went in January/February. The ages at that time were from a couple of weeks old to well into retirement. You should have to problem finding people your age.

The only thing we did not like there was the entertainment. We would have preferred local entertainment instead of the english group. Everything and everyone was good right from the top person to the bottom person on the list.

Have a good trip.

there is a mix of all ages in both sections: when we were they're there were lots of 20-30 age group, but the older ones were having just as much fun enjoy

We took it. It's called Dukoral. It cost about $65.00 for the two doses. Apparently it is effective for 5 years! Good thing, because it tastes awful (aftertaste). Well worth the effort and money though, if we don't end up with diarrhea!

Tourist Card

Goonergal are you from Canada? Once you applied for your visa how long did it take to receive it. Is a tourist card and a visa the same thing.

Hi Gopher, I think it all just depends where in the world you live as to whether you need a Tourist Card or a Tourist Visa. I have just been on to the Dominican Republic website in the UK and Canada in on the list of countries that only requires a Tourist Card. It was so easy to apply for, just send photocopies of the page(s) of your passport with all your details and photo on plus in the UK it was ?10.00 per person and we had to send a postal order NO personal cheques are allowed plus a stamped self addressed envelope for them to send the cards to you - it might be different in Canada. I posted the applications off on a Saturday and I received the Tourist Cards back in the post the following Thursday, so a very good turn around time. We only got them now because it saves the hassle of queueing up to receive your cards when you arrive in the DR. We don't travel until May 7th so you could say that I do tend to plan well in advance!!!!!!!! Hope this explains it all for you.:rambo:

Wow

We just returned from HVGB for a blissful 7 days.

We were 11 people between the ages of 21-25

I was worried about going because of bad reviews and let me tell you - these people are CRAZY.

They are the kind of people who complain if a room isnt set up the way they want it to be. GIVE ME A BREAK. These are the miserable people who have nothing better to do so they insist on making others miserable.

Honestly, this is NOT just a family resort... SO SO SO SOOOOOOO much to do for people around my age. You have to do the karoke, Steve is AMAZING!

I have NOT ONE complaint. Everything is perfect. The picture's don't do it justice... so very jealous of those who are leaving.

Honestly - be so so happy. You picked a GREAT resort.

I'm posting this because I'm rather angry at those people who made ME paranoid before MY trip. This place is great, I don't know what the HECK these people are expecting?

We stayed in the regular rooms and we couldn't have asked for more. Personally, I wouldn't have upgraded. Didn't really seem to be much going on and unless you loathe children, you'll be fine.

If you're happy to be in the BEAUTIFUL Dominican Republic with good company - you can't go wrong... but HVGB made our trip AMAZING.

SO - ignore bad posts from grumpy whiners who have nothing better to do with their time and listen to ME. Feel free to PM with more questions!

Oh right - saw a couple who had just got married being carried around in a horse and carriage around the resort. They were very very happy.

Don't even think of switching resorts!

My friend that I was with has been to 6 other all inclusives, from DR, to Venezuela... and he said by far this was the best.

PS. The bartenders DO NOT chince out on the booze in your drink :)
