Hotel choice

my husband, I and another couple are thinking going to Playa Dorada and booking at Gran Venada or Flamenco in Feb.
Which would be your choice?
we like smallish restort, quiet,clean, nice beach and good food.
We also like snorkeling trips, shopping at markets etc.Not too fussy about discos.

Gran Ventana and Flamenco are fairly large hotels. I stayed at Gran Ventana before it expanded and enjoyed the shows and the food. It has a terrific pool and is right on the beach. It is also only a couple of years old so everything is brand new.

Flamenco is a older resort and larger.

Hi; My wife and I are booked in Feb. for our 4th visit to Gran Ventana. I must admit that I don't know any of the other resorts but our experinces with GV have always been pleasant. We do try to get a room away from the main pool as it does get a little noisy with the entertainment that goes on. We cannot praise the food too highly. There are three specialty restaurants but we found the food in the cafeteria so excellent that we preferred it most of the time. We did visit the others and we found the roastduckling in the Octopus (I hope that is the right name - it is right over the cafeteria) truly something to make the whole trip worth while.

We are both in our 70's so we don't go around much but we do walk to the shopping plaza for a look see and a change of scene. It is also where I buy time on the internet to keep in touch with home and friends. At home I have ADSL so the speed of the DR system is painful to say the least, but it does the trick. Last Feb. the cost (at the record store) was $RD60/hour. So I didn't do much surfing although I did check the stock market and occassionaly check the weather report from home.

We spent 2 weeks at the Gran Ventana (Big Window in English) last
Feb. Had a great time,food is excellent, the beaches you can walk for miles on beautiful sand, snorkeling in waist deep water 30 feet off the shore in front of hotel, beautiful pool and the staff are super friendly. All together a great vacation. We did not want to go back to the same place two years in a row so this year we are going to Punta Cana on the east shore of the Dominican Republic.
