Usually I pass through and we only stop for an hour or so. Next weekend, we’re planning to stay and spend some time there. I have an AirBnb in mind, but wanted to ask on here too.

Can anyone recommend a good hotel in either Río San Juan or Cabrera? Not extreme high end, but definitely AC, clean, etc. Probably $150-$200 per night would be the top of our budget.

I can not recomend a Hotel but you should go to playa Caleton. Very nice beach in an small bay, nice sand and sallow water with calm water.
My beach of preference when in the area. Very good for children. Also typical beach food.

Great beach ask for Tony to set you up. Table, lounges, great fresh fish and lobster. But do not go on the weekends, particularly Sunday. Packed with Dominicans seeing who has the loudest boom box. Weekdays are great though..................Also a river is there with boats and guides...........

Yes it’s very pretty, we’ve stopped in. I avoid crowds so maybe we’ll go earlier in the morning .

I don’t want to derail my own thread, but does anyone know anything about the fort at Playa Diamanté?

I know nothing of a fort..... but the oldest lighthouse in the New World is nearby

Cabo Frances Viejo

Standing on the shore at Playa Diamanté, there is what appears to be a fort on the right hand (east) side.

The guy at the little beachfront colmado said it’s historical. It looks similar to the small turret at the fort in Puerto Plata. There appears to be a wall around it as well.

Thank you.

Catalina has been coming up on my Instagram feed, but I couldn’t remember the name. It looks really nice.

This is the view from the beach. It’s where the red arrow is, just at the bottom of where the palms stop. Not easy to see because my photo quality is poor. But it’s the little turret sticking up.

Definitely not at Cabo Frances Viejo, because I haven’t stopped there before.

But now I will, I’d love to see that. Thanks for sharing. We will stay at Catalina.
