I made reservations on this hotel, this place looks good in pictures and has a good price with breakfast and taxes included. My main concern is if it is located in a safe area.

The area is safe- I live two blocks from there-- and you are right down from both the Intercontental and the Melia... But read what the other poster said.. it is really not a "hotel" but a house of... well..

silly silly me... that may be just what you are looking for.... but be careful of your wallet and those pesky STDs...

Funny!!! I found this place on DR internet yellow pages and it is listed as a hotel, not a house of "love" on a few internet travel sites.

I know that Pasteur (where hotel is located) is the street where Villar Hnos is, delicious sandwiches and local food. I have been on the capital a few times so it looks this place is brand new.

It ain't a hotel. It's a "spiffed up" cabana strategically located next to two infamous Churches affiliated with Our Lady of the Holy Mattress (as MountainAnnie mentioned).

I don?t think that I said it was a cabana.. Just that it certainly seemed a "House"--I am surprised that you did not feel comfortable bringing in chicas. Let us just say that I would not book a single woman traveler into the Mystic.. It presents to the street as a "House".. flashy neon sign, next to a Girls Girls Girls .. one Friend told me that they supplied the best professionals in town.. Perhaps you did not enquire?

Mystick...

I understand all of the confusion, The exact location of Hotel Mystick used to be a casa, a few years ago but its a hotel now. They get regular business as well as short stays. Cabanas on the other hand I believe are exclusively used for the latter Just wanted to mystick my two cents in on this one. Best regards.

Will be there this week Sept 19th for 10 days.

Casona Dorada is an excellent deal, i was there not too long ago and paid $1500RD a night, which is good my my standards, excellent location, friendly staff.
Mystik is definately next door to a chica house, I did not like the people hanging out in front of either establishment so i would say dont stay there [but thats just my opinion]. if you got that great a deal in the jaragua you should be ok! much nicer and safer than Mystik if you are worried about getting clipped or harrassed....LOL :)

I finally stayed at Jaguar on Hermanos Deligne, two minute walk from Jaragua. Nice small new hotel but the area did not look safe to me. After a day a guy asked me for some money and later told me "I know where are you staying" so I felt like "if you dont give me some money I know where I can find you." It also happened with another guy who was running to me.

The Mystik is safe and so is the area that it's located in. I have stayed there many times and prefer it over many other places I have stayed at previously.
I used to stay at the Hotel La Colonia and Hotel Freeman, both located in the Colonial Zone, and I used to stay at the Jaragua a lot. Although these hotels are okay more or less, the area they're in has no parking except for on the street & often you'll be forced to park far from the hotel due to a lack of parking spaces. The Jaragua has plenty of parking, but it costs more than the Mystik. The Mystik has it's own parking lot also, but is more affordable.

It's cheaper than the Jaragua and just a two minute walk away. It's a great, safe place to stay.

I have visited SD a few times after my inquiry. Mystik is owned by the owner of Girls House, a pay for plat place, but you can book a room on a daily basis too. Hotel Navarro which is adjacent to Hotel Duque de Wellington is owned by the owner of Foxys strip club which is almost in front of De Luis Parrillada on el malecon. Foxys girls live on the first level of the hotel and second level is available for daily rent. Owners of these places are two cuban brothers. The best small hotel on the Gazcue area is Riazor. Jaguar is also good, Navarro is aceptable, Mystik is good, I have read a lot of complaints about Casona Dorada recently.

I had no problems bringing guests to el Jaragua although I know they have a no guest policy.
