In Santiago, is there a hotel that has high speed internet? I live and die by communicating with my home office through the internet. Dial up is just torture.

Any suggestions?

Give it a little while someone will reply - I doubt there is high speed internet in Santiago hotels. Or ones in the Capital for that matter. There is some DSL in the country but as far as the North American style network connection in a hotel, not too likely yet.

Your best bet for high speed internet connections would be internet cafe's.

minus the hotel part.

If you are carrying your own laptop you may find some incternet cafes are not wild about lettting you jack into their network but you can ask.

If you get a 5 Km Cat 5e cable and some repeaters you could run a wire to the hotel room.

I usually find the internet cafe's willing to let me connect my laptop - the big problem is that they don't know how - so, you're fine if you know how to do a little network hacking. Some cafe's have a separate area set aside for plugging in laptops. Then it is easy...

programs

Do the computers in the internet cafe's have Word/Excel? Are they just for surfing? I'm trying to decide if I'm bringing my laptop.

Thanks

My experience is that they usually have both word and excel - Spanish versions. My biggest problem is sometimes working on a Spanish keyboard. That makes for some strange pecking on the keyboard.
