Yea i've been there several times. In terms of hotel there's the Howard Johnson Hotel. This hotel has it's own disco also. It's walking distance to the Malecon. Lots of nightlife in San Pedro de Macoris. There's the Rosemary Carwash or the famous Lewis Carwash and Disco. There's several bars on the Malecon strip. There are the colmados. You can head over to a village called Consuelo which is a short 10 minute drive. Lots of nightlife there also.

I for one LOVE San Pedro de Macoris (SPM). I've stayed at the former Howard Johnson which is right on Malecon. I just found out from another DR1 poster that it is now called Hotel Macorix. Main - Hotel Escuela Macorix by Universidad Central del Este I've also stayed in Juan Dolio (JD) in a rented apartamento. When I return I will probably stay at the Hotel Macorix primarily because for me there is more to do in SPM than there is in JD.

If you are going Oct thru Dec you HAVE to check out a baseball game or 2 at Estadio Tetelo Vargas where Las Estrellas play. The atmosphere is fantastic and everyone is very friendly. Also, there is Malecon which comes alive when the sun goes down with lots of music, and free flowing Presidente & Brugal. =)* The locals are all friendly and very entertaining driving around the long oval roadway that is Malecon. There are also alot of great places to eat within walking distance.

For me the biggest reason I prefer to stay in SPM is because this is where the night life is IMO, and if you stay late it is difficult to find transportation back to JD after dark. If you are staying in SPM you can just grab a gua gua or motoconcho quickly to anything fairly close.

Yo JessicaLee,

Thanks for the info. When I visisted JD a few months ago, it was empty! Tell me more about the apartmento del rento - is it private? Someitmes when I stay at hotels, they card my guests, which i find embarrasing. Apartmento REnto?

I also like SPDM, there is a good night life, the malecon is awesome at night, lots of bars, discos and the carwashes. The ONLY time I have ever spent the night in SPDM was in a cabana once [NEVER AGAIN], I would rather stay in Juan Dolio but it is not wise to be making that drive late at night and or after a night of partying and drinking....

I found many apartments to rent in JD online. If you PM me I can give you the information about the place I rented. It wasn't fancy but it was inexpensive, clean and the owner was honest & easy to deal with.

SPM SUCKS, Juan Dolio is ok I've lived in both for 6 years. There are so many better places to go in the DR with other activities on offer, I wouldnt reccomend SPM to anybody. I lived in the old Howard Johnson for a couple months back in the day, brown sludge came out of the faucets, and just in that one disco downstairs Ive seen pistols fired twice, not to mention how many bottles Ive seen popped on peoples heads. Not to negate anybody who has had a good experience there, but the place oozes hate, inferiorty complexes, and ignorance. It praises and loves anything shiny, blinky or loud. IMHO going there to vacay would be like going to sabana perdida to vacay. maybe good if you REALLY like batchata.
