I believe you Marco!
It's really not a big deal.
I do not believe 75% of what I read on any message boards.

Now I have to worry about loose eyeballs floating around and extra colostomy bags in the closet left behind from some Texan landlord!

$50 per night - Sleeps up to 6

Not quite in Sosua, but midway between Sosua and Cabarete is Coconut Palms Resort (see www.coconutpalmsresort.com), near Playa Encuentro.

I have a timeshare apartment there which I could let you have for $350 per week (or $500 for two consecutive weeks up until the end of October), subject to availability. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, double sofabed in lounge. Cot available. Free daytime transport to Cabarete and Sosua, beach shuttle or 10 minute walk, entertainment programme, bar and restaurant, friendly staff, great pool, daily maid service etc. Nice resort.

PM me for more details.

Linda Stapleton.

Casa Marina is nice, good food, outdoor jacuzzi (by the cliffs), a/c, short walk into main sosua (but i wouldn't do it after dark just to be safe). Voramar is nice also but it is further away from the center of sosua. Casa Cayena is nice also but a little pricy. Del Delfin www.elcantodeldelfin.com is nice too, fridge and stove in the room, a/c, supermercado across the street, bakery next door, 5 minutes to the beach or the nightlife, police station down the street, guest friendly and of course security. the only drawback to the del delfin is it's on the main highway and it may disturb you and your guest early in the morning...LOL

good luck

Can anyone recommend affordable hotels in sosua for under $60 a night. I'm traveling around the end of August and not looking for AI deals. Just something relatively clean and dependable.
I've been seeing hotels like tropix, rocky's, voramar, casa cayena etc.
Which of these or what else would anyone recommend.

Thanks
Where did you wind up staying and how was it?

if you are going in august(off season) you will have many choices for way under 60 a day. i just spent 750us for the month including taxes for an apt in europa. my room was 5 steps away from the pool. included air, cable tv, kitchen. rooms were large, clean with daily maid service guest friendly. it was about 5 min from rockys andabout 5 min farther than rock,s from the playa. i hear the new garden is somewhat like europa but a little closer to the beach. just a few doors from rocky,s. roky,s is even cheaper but does not have ac. but all in all rocky,s is still a great place to hang out. just my opinion don

The Europa Guest House is nice if you want to be located in the middle of Domino's Putaria. Different strokes for different folks. Great BBQ chicken across the street.

voramar is too far from the nightlife and daylife...rocky's is a good choice and there are other places on that same street as rocky's....

some folks book at an AI and have another hotel on the side just in case....get my drift ?

Safety isn't really an issue there as much as it seems the quality has gone down a little... but for the money, you're getting the biggest rooms in town with plenty of hot water, good a/c and cable...

I know people have mentioned the guest house at Europa as a nice place to stay, but I stayed there once and found it pretty "creepy", so if they try to put you in there, you may way to think twice...if you haven't pre-paid at the Europa, you may want to try renting a condo at the Palms or Tradewinds from Rocky, Brooke (not sure what her DR1 handle is), AlanInDR, etc...they're very nice and only an extra 5 minute walk to town/the beach, compared to the Europa...

el colibri...Ive never stayed there, but passed it many times...looks very nice and Ive heard good things about the accomodations. FWIW, it's not a place to bring random "dates"...

New Garden Hotel

Can someone explain exactly where this hotel is located from, let say, Rocky's or Hotel Europa or even the beach?

Haven't been down there in years. Outside of Pedro Clisante, I don't remember the street names to be able to judge where Dr. Rosen is in proximity to the beach or Harrison's.

Any help would be appreciated.

Rocky's is on Dr Rosen, the same street as New Garden Hotel. If you walk out of Rocky's you make a right, walk 100 yards and you are at New Garden Hotel. Casa Valeria is between Rocky's and New Garden.

I spent four nights at New Garden Hotel last month and was quite pleased with the hotel.
