just to head off comments....

Just to be clear.....

I am not denegrating Sosua/Cabarete by the comments about bars on the windows. I get asked in Jerzy "do you feel safe there?" and I always reply back, "Well, let's see, my house in NJ has been broken into twice, car twice and I DO hear the occasional gun fire at night (IN JERSEY that is), so yea, just like being home." And I come from the Jersey Shore (no not MTV Jersey Shore - pleazzzz) not a city.

I like Sosua/Cabarete

I am hooked on that show. I have seen about 5 episodes 3 on Punta Cana and 2 on North coast. There is an episode of a realtor from Miami moving to PC and then set up shop there. His website is below. I noticed on his site that the agent that sold him the condo on the show works for him. I think the whole thing is staged.

HGTV can be additive. It can also be expensive, because I get all these ideas of what we can do to our house. [Sprinkler system, new sod and landscaping, refinished deck, fiberglassed our front porch, gutted our powder room and redid it, etc]. I'm waiting for my husband to ban me from watching it. Our son was here one rainy day [he lives on the beach when he's here] and we sat through several different episodes. He left here all gung-ho to do this and that to his condo. Went straight to Lowes and has been busy for 2 weeks. Hopefully he'll finish before he has to go back to teaching in Sept.

You may be right about the episodes being staged. I saw that episode too, he was on a stricter budget than most of the other shows. I had the thought that they almost MUST be staged - or at least re-filmed after someone buys. First of all, who would fly to DR for 2-3 days and only see 3 properties and then decide? Secondly, what if the buyers didn't find anything they liked in their price range - throw out the film and all the costs??? I suspect they hook up with a realtor who has recently sold a house/condo to someone who fits a profile they're looking for. So they get a film crew, re-show showing three of the properties, and voila!

I don't care how they do it, I love watching it, especially the ones in DR.

What a fuzz over a tv-show :surprised

I like to watch this show because its presented well and it makes me droole over some of the houses shown, for the rest for me its pure entertainment.

Thanks for the info Scott, this explains the price differences in what is on the show and what I would expect. A 3 year lapse in time is huge.

Bit I still love the show!

House Hunters International marathon going on today. I've already seen a couple of Dominican episodes (watching one right now). More coming on later on today. The weather here in Michigan got gloomy and cold today so good day to stay in and watch some of this.

I was interested in the Sosua one since the couple was from NJ. There's a bunch of folks from NJ in and around Sosua/Cabarete. But then again, there's alot of us folks in NJ and we do like to get AWAY, haha.

FYI:They are my neighbors here in Cabarete and hail from Cape May,NJ

If they're the ones that I saw - they bought two properties [a house to rent out and a condo they live in] and were a black couple, they were from Mays Landing, NJ according to the episode. Maybe there was another NJ couple?

I caught two of the episodes today, I love watching the Dominican ones to get ideas for decorating/renovating/etc.

Does anyone here actually have one of those concrete countertops that are all the rage now? One of the DR properties had that today - I find them unattractive in comparison to granite, but to each his own. They are SOOOOO expensive in the US too.

used to have one in Belgium, as well as polished concrete floors... nice to look at, but would never want a countertop like that again... simply not hygienic...

polished concrete floors are nice, and ask little maintenance, but you have to have them repolished every couple of years... a no go for me if I would ever built again...

give me granite, or marble any day...

Well Danny, I can't talk, because Absecon Island (where I live) is below the Mason Dixon Line too, I'm officially in the south here. There is definitely a different 'accent' down here :ermm:

I've been here since 1980, but I still consider myself 'just visiting', because I'll always be a die-hard New Yorker.
