How necessary is 4WD?

My rationale for a 4WD:

Iit's not the best vehicle for the best conditions. Far from it. It's the best vehicle for the worst conditions.

The primary times my 4WD was a lifesaver was in bad weather which created bad conditions.

That econobox may have gotten you to that backwater place...before the conditiona changed...

We haven't been there for the last 6 months, but it was'nt easy then. If you look at a map these are brown roads. DIRT. With the rain an such. Get a 4WD. You'll have a good time, but the road is really ruff, in the best of times. A car won't get it.
