How to marry someone in DR?

I've met a wonderful Dominican lady. I'm Canadian and was thinking of marrying her in DR, I will be living there too.
My question is, what is the proper legal way on doing this?
1) Do I get married first, then get my residence card, and then what??? I like to reside in DR, have kids and open a business.

Any help would be apprectiated

All you need is a document stating that you are not presently married. The actual cost of getting married is cheap but sometimes what follows costs a fortune. Good Luck

Thanks to Eddy & Katia for your answers, I really appreciated.

Katia,

I did search the archives and did not find the exact information I'm looking for! It does not talk about the steps on marrying a DR person!

Like Eddy was saying I need a document stating that I'm not presently married, and then I can get married, but what about after the marriage, do I automatically become citizen (of course I need to apply for it), but because I will marry someone in DR (from what I've read in the internet) we can get the Residente card easier then a person (foreigner) who just come in town and apply for it!

Also, I am not interested on hiring a lawyer for this, all the lawyers I had in my past was only there to get my money and not helping me out (they pretend they do!), that's the reason why you hire a lawyer is to help you and in exchange you give them your money. :-(

Again thank you very much on helping me. :)

Mike, I don?t really think that being married to a Dominican will facilitate you obtaining residency. Now mind you things could have changed with this new Gov., however in the past there were several steps that had to be taken. There are attorneys down here who will assist you. Believe me it?s not that expensive when you consider the time and number of trips you would have to make to the Capital. There have been several posts on this subject in the past and it would be worth your while checking them out.

FOR MIKE

Mike:

I don't really know what those steps are. Where exactly do you live US or Canada?

Find the DR consulate nearest your hometown and call them up and ask. That's what I did when I was thinking of moving there. I live in Montreal, Canada and we have such an office here and there's a lot of paperwork. And it takes money too.

Well, good luck.

Re: FOR MIKE

Katia,

Thanks for the info, I live in Vancouver and did not find any DR consulate in my area! I guess I can call the Montreal office and ask them to send me the papers by mail!
Would you have the "DR consulate" URL by any chance?

Thanks again.
