Defense Minister Carlos Diaz Morfa hosted the meeting of the Superior Council of the Conference of Central American Armed Forces in Santo Domingo last week, and some of the conclusions were quite disturbing. The conference noted that the very unsettled conditions in Haiti provide the conditions which promote huge flows of migrants to all the countries in the region, and, in particular, to the Dominican Republic. This was on of the conclusions of the meeting that was chaired by Lt. General Carlos Diaz Morfa. The conference also called drug trafficking “the principle common threat for regional security,” and called for the strongest of actions against this threat to the ground, sea and air spaces of the area.
