Ken, I saw that telecast and she really bobbled the ball, didn't she?

She said it was going to go from a One to a two!!! Or something like that. Referring to the "debilitating effects of passing over Cuba!!"

Cuba and then the west coast of Florida seems to be the new track, but you can see that it has wobbled all over the place.

It's looking like it aimed to either hit or sideswipe the FL West coast. The most consistent model shows landfall just north of Tampa Bay, where I live.

Gonne be wet and windy around here next week...:nervous: :paranoid:

Waves along the Malecón in Santo Domingo this morning at 10AM:

http://i6.tinypic.com/25rphu8.jpg

Santo Domingo has had heavy rain over the last 26 hours. Right now there is a light drizzle and the sun is trying to break through.

We have had very little wind from Ernesto; just steady rain from the trailing remnants.

No sun for Santo Domingo today. I just hope tomorrow there is no rain at all from Santo Domingo to BC.

You might want to remind them of what happened in Jimaní and the Río Blanco. There is so little ground cover there that mudslides are typical.

Just raining, and raining and raining ... torrential rains. Check out the mudslides in that area. I would say for the next week or so we should not be visiting waterfalls, or areas prone to mudslides. It is soft rain yes, but truly, a lot of water is coming down.

Good night! I sat up last night watching this thing and tonight I'm going to sleep well in the relative cool with the rain singing in the background.

Juan Dolio - nothing scary

sunday 27 at 22:30: ****ty druiling weather

At around 21:00 we got some thunders and heavy rain, but 15 minutes later it went back to very soft and the thunder was gone.
Our satellite Internet was down for only 3 minutes during this event, nothing special

We are blessed this time, i see reports from other places in the DR that really got hit, but it is not over yet
(generator, pump and camera are still stand-by)

Traveling with Ernesto

I have a friend that is in San Antonio at the moment driving to Miami. Thought folks might be interested in what I advised him so he wouldn't bump in to Ernesto.

"Just looking at Ernesto - it has just been downgraded to a tropical storm again blowing 50 mph winds. It will hit the coast of Cuba in 24 hours and will leave Cuba to traverse over the Fl straits in 48 hours - then it will be off Tampa in about 60 hours according to the predictions.

So if you can reach Miami in the next 48-60 hours, you should be ok. If you drag your feet, you will prbably hit some heavy rain and wind as you move down the length of Florida. If you are really slow, the storm may cross your path in FL.

You have about 1000 miles to Jacksonville and then 300 to Miami. If you hurry you could do it in 2 days but more likely closer to 3 - just when Ernesto is due to cross FL to the north east. If you hurry, I suggest you go via Jacksonville and then down 95 to Miami. That will put you about 100 miles away from the projected track of Ernesto at the closest (off Tampa) in 2.5 days and at that distance, they are predicting 35mph winds and lots of rain. Not un-navigable and as you get 30 miles farther away from the storm, the wind drops to 25mph.

Otherwise, why not hang out in Tallahassee if you see the storm crossing your path until it moves off to the north east. If you are slower and it crosses FL before you get there - go down 75 if the storm is to the east of you and cross over alligator alley from Naples. Gives you a chance to see the everglades!

Of course all this assumes that Ernesto will follow the predicted path and not come inland in FL sooner. Also there is no telling what will happen to the storm as it crosses the length of Cuba. Many storms blow out doing this so .... cross your fingers.

Hope this gives you some weather insight. And take care.
"

And we here in the DR well have a damp but cool sleep as we wave goodbye (hopefully) to Ernesto.

We should still see some rain today as Ernesto's last trailing clouds leave our shores. Floods and mud slides are still a significant threat for much of Hispaniola and Eastern Cuba.

While we put our eyes back to the rest of the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean, we wish everyone in Ernesto's path good luck and prepare yourselves.
