Hey Guys,
boring wet and cold wintertime is over, let's move to summer, hot and humid, full of Boikinis on da Beach, and always a nice calm Breeze around to assist to cool down together with some Presidentes or Rum&Juice, ha ha.

I did not run any outlook for the just strated 2011 Hurricane Season, work keeps me this year quiet well tied up as do also some personal/family thingies,
but I thought it is Time to start the 2011 Hurricane Topic so we all can post here at one place our Opinions/predictions/life Observations etc, so the whole theme sticks as last year under One single Topic, and not spread out over many Topics to search for.

Deprssions and Windies,
Where arttha??

have a safe and sunny Summer 2011

if You wanna take a look at the actual Punta Cana weather, just jump in here on
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/MDPC.html

as for the usual daily weather keep in mind that Punta Cana is a very long stretch of Beachmiles, the northern portion(Uvero Alto) located very close to the first mountains, so there very most rain in Punta Cana comes down, Cabeza de Toro as one of the easternmost Points and farest from the Mountains, is a spot where Rain is rare even when Bavaro is calling showers on daily bases. where ever weather is mentioned for "Punta Cana" in general, keep Focus on specific Areas within Punta Cana for Daily Sunshine'Shower etc Hours.
as far as big Weather Systems such as the Actual Vaguada, Tropical Storms or Hurricanes go, Yes, then Punta Cana as a whole Area is of course under the same Influence and receives the same Results/Weather/Rain/Thunder etc.

the lil System located actually a few hundred miles south of Jamaica, forcing rain over Jamaica, Haiti, Southeast Cuba and portions of the DR is Stationary, so iot will go on to pour down Rain in that Area for the next 2-3 Days, Western DR and the Southshores will no complain about Dry Rivers, while it appears on the Eastshores/Punta Cana as a Vadguada, completely Windfree, the Eastcoast will stay on Dead Calm Flat Oceanconditions with zero Wind, soft Rain sprinkling down as it has done since Noon this afternoon, no Signs of any upcoming heavy weather in sight so far for the East.
chance to develop for the System south of Jamaica I see near Zero, there is plenty of Dry Air in the Area hindering any quick increase, I don't think it will even get any organized.
while the Central caribbean shows very low Windshear, the Surroundings of Hispaniola are actually under very High Shear, no way anything forming or growing up for the next 2-3 Days.
the Updates of the small System can be followed up on

I sm glad to see you Mike

Many thanks once again for heading this very important thread. While most of us know that this is the quiet period of the season, it is good for the newbies to get used to the idea that hurricanes do hit this island!!

http://www.west.house.gov/images/stories/Hurricane.Safety.Checklist.pdf

This is a good list of things to think about now, not later. If you ask some of the people who experienced Georges (not George!!--it was a she storm) they will tell you what it was like. Especially for those on the
South Shore.

Some of these storms can be fun, but they can be awfully, seriously dangerous. So be prepared.

nice to read ya, too, Luis.
can't open your PDF linked above,
when I click on it a new Tab opens but it stays on loading for ever without showing me your list.
is it working for others and just something on my computer or is the link broken?

total agreement to above said,
what save's You during a Storm is what You did as preparation BEFORE.
and never forget the Important Fact:
Most Casualties during Storms are People who Leave their Save House and try to Watch da Windy Thingy.

keep alternatives to your electrical lights and stove in the house.
store Food that stay's til summer's end without getting damaged.
always keep a large stock of drinking water, including cold Beers.
if your house's watersupply depends on electrical powers/Pump, get a darn 55 Gallon Plastic Drum and once a Storm is awaited to pass your area soon fill it up with Tab water to be used for washing and the Toiletflush. do not keep such Drum of water unless a Storm is awaited for Your Area, at least not untreated with Cloro, 'cause Dengue and Mosquitos are always on the Look for such unused standing water.

Hey Angel,
as there are no Storms or such anywheer near at this moment nor expected, there's not been a real need for a Hurricane Topic, but as People requested it I thought it can be started, as the official Hurricane Season anyways starts June 1st and ends Nov 30th, ha ha.
with the weak La Ni?a Conditions to be awaited to go completely down during August, I would expect to not see much of Storms around here before mid August, then we will run the peak time with perfect conditions for Stormy developments til late October.

Ocean Temperatures are on record Highs, Saharan Dust is something which hopefully get's blown in more quantity over the big Pond as it is til now almost not existent here, and anyways we have Our biggest Weapon to Load:
we are PC, we 'mostly' get simply Lucky in the middle of everything Stormy.

as long range predictions there is not much to say, it is the same situation as we had last year, a awaited "Active" Hurricane Season for the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea, as we are in the middle of a Decades running Hurricane Top Active Time Period since the mid 1990's, so those longrange Season Outlooks will promise a active season for this year and also for many more consecutive years to come, nothing to get extraordinarily scared about, it is just usual since a decade and a half.

we had a very active Season last year/2010, and all that happened been Hurricane earl on the run, but finally He decided to stay a bit north and bring us just a rainy weekend.

towards the End of July the Outlooks will get more specific and much more reliable,
for now we have as the result/influence of a Low in the Central caribbean Sea some very ****ty weather in the Southwest of the DR, with a rough Caribbean Sea around the Capital City and quiet some strong wind blowing there on the SW.

over here on the East as usual from now til late summer, we are much calmer than the caribbean sea, the Atlantic around Punta Cana is a sleeping Angel, even Offshore Sea is actually just on 1-2ft max, wind is completely ZERO, we had some dropping/sprinkling consecutive hours this afternoon, but not any real amount of water fallen, just some hours of soft dropping down. a bit more landwards, around Higuey, there it rained hard and hefty, the lil Arroyos towards the Ranchs in the Hills are flooded.

cheers

Mike

Heya Marilyn,
if it yruns orange means most likely that it shows some stage of organization, not surprising as the system is not moving, it is almost stationary a good hundred miles south of Jamaica, so it collects all those dark cloudies available throughout the central and western caribbean sea, pushes them together and throws the out again as hefty raining biests over jamaica, SE Cuba, most haiti and also the SW DR.
I hope Annie and others in the Capital have their Rubber Boots ready in case they wanna leave the house during this weekend.
forget about an Umbrella, it could fly away and you will anyways get wet, lol.

how has the weather been today up North, in Puerto plata or in Santiago etc??
