Hi Everybody,

I just got off line with Orbitz travel. Thanks to you I was able to

get tickets, I think, at a good price. Two roundtrip tickets with AA from N.Y.

to S.D. will cost me a total of $634.80. Leave N.Y. august 4th at 9p.m. and

arrive S.D. at 1a.m. Leave S.D. august 25th at 7AM and arrive at 1PM

in N.Y. after a short stop over in P.R. The roundtrip limo service from

Phila. to N.Y. will set me back $150 plus $15 in tips each way ($30) for

a grand total of $814.80. (Philadelphia/New York/Santo Domingo roundtrip).

What do you think? A few other questions if you will? Where do I buy

my tourist card? Also, can you run me through the steps from deboarding

the plane until you enter a taxi to your hotel?

Muchas Garcias!

For driving PHI to NYC that seems awfully cheap for a limo. You might look at Amtrak or even a bus for even less, maybe. I'd get a limo price in writing for $75 each way.

Airfare: Good price, lousy arrival time but there should be taxis at 1 a.m.

The tourist card booth is in arrivals before immigration, US$10, one each , fill it out BEFORE you go to immigration. Then you go to customs where the luggage is and then exit, past the customs bribe collectors, however usually they leave tourists alone (do not let on you speak Spanish if you do), then as you leave customs you arrive at the street exit where the taxis are. You cannot miss them.

Negotiate a fair rate (US$18 to Boca Chica and I think no more than US$25 to Santo Domingo city centre). I recommend taking a marked tourist taxi with a logo on the door that says, well, tourist taxi, in Spanish. If you think the driver is being sharp, agree on the price in US$ and then write it down and have him sign that if need be. If you are staying at a fancy hotel like Jaragua, or Melia you may be able to ask them to send a car for you , then a driver with a sign would be waiting there.

NB: No more double spacing the posts, OK? We read good here.

Rick thanks for your advice and help!

Actually the limo service is not a real limo but rather a van which holds eight

to ten customers. They probably use that name to make you feel like an

important person. You mentioned the term "customs bribe collectors." What

do you mean by that?

Thanks,

Steve and Helen

P.S. The reason I double space is because it is easier on your eyes.

Don't you agree?

NO! Knock it off. We don't need posts that take up a whole screen. You may note you are the ONLY one doing it. Color posts are equally annoying.

Tit for tat, right? Customs guys will try to seek bribes under the lamest excuses for what you have , tax owed on this or that, if you look dumb (and a few more posts with double spacing I will start to think that will be easy) and like you don't understand a lick of whatever language they are speaking they will give up eventually. Asking for an official receipt is sometimes pretty funny. I just avoid them altogether now and my life is easier.

Glad you were able to find a great price down there. Have a great time!!!

Regarding tourist cards, not sure if AA is doing this, but....when I flew JetBlue over the July 4th weekend, I was able to purchase my tourist card at the JetBlue ticket counter at JFK when I was checking in. You might want to ask when you're checking in.

Not a big deal, but just made for a quicker exit from the airport (no standing in another line).

Enjoy!!!

AA stopped selling them at the gate, then at the Caribbean check in then finally at the Admiral's Clubs. Too much hassle accounting for it the AC told me.

?

I bought a ticket for my friend from NY to SD, non stop, from AmericanAirlines.com, for August 7th to the 25th for $342 roundtrip.
Still, your price is great for 2 roundtrips even if you have to make a stop.

Thanks Rick!

Are you now living in Boca Chica?

Steve and Helen

Can't answer due to your ridiculous, you-only double spacing fetish.
