I too think that cooler heads should prevail.
I sometimes caution people, "Remember where you're at."
In other words, we are not forced to go to the DR, but when there remember that things are different, like another universe in a science fiction film.
Why risk destroying it? There are many problems in the DR - problems which make it possible for some of us to find a niche away from the beaten path of the world. Many of those problems simply have to be accepted (although recognized for what they are).
As far as the peso crisis, enjoy it while it lasts. It's not a problem for those with dollars.
Those who want an Americanized DR might try Puerto Rico or New York.
