Education has a long way to go, but even there has seen some changes. For example, getting a university education in DR with a high quality was basically unheard of. Now universities like PUCMM, INTEC and a few others are creating professionals that can and do get hired abroad to work for top notch companies.I'm embarrassed to talk about Education. I have a lot of faith in our new Minister of Education though.
The DR didn't have a management school, but a few years ago Barna was created and is also known for giving a top notch education. Wait when the genie is out of the bottle and word hits Puerto Rico and even the USA. You can actually get a mansgement education there with the same quality as in the USA for a fraction of the costs. Like has happened with some DR universities that are sttracting some students from other countries, Barna may go the same way soon. Plus, that is only the first one, new ones will most likely be created.
Even in the arts there is the school of design Chavón which has a branch in SD and has some sort of cooperation agreement with Parson School of Design in NYC, which is one of the world's to schools of design. I think that too is the first of its kind in the DR.
Going abroad to get a top notch university and/or specialty education is becoming more than a necessity, an option. Local options are now offering similar quality for less.
I don't think anyone would even imagine that would be the case today, yet it is.
And not everyone that attend these schools are from rich or middle class families. Many of the economically disadvantage are granted scholarships to study there too on a yearly basis. Scholarships offered by the government and the private sector.
