I'm embarrassed to talk about Education. I have a lot of faith in our new Minister of Education though.
Education has a long way to go, but even there has seen some changes. For example, getting a university education in DR with a high quality was basically unheard of. Now universities like PUCMM, INTEC and a few others are creating professionals that can and do get hired abroad to work for top notch companies.

The DR didn't have a management school, but a few years ago Barna was created and is also known for giving a top notch education. Wait when the genie is out of the bottle and word hits Puerto Rico and even the USA. You can actually get a mansgement education there with the same quality as in the USA for a fraction of the costs. Like has happened with some DR universities that are sttracting some students from other countries, Barna may go the same way soon. Plus, that is only the first one, new ones will most likely be created.

Even in the arts there is the school of design Chavón which has a branch in SD and has some sort of cooperation agreement with Parson School of Design in NYC, which is one of the world's to schools of design. I think that too is the first of its kind in the DR.

Going abroad to get a top notch university and/or specialty education is becoming more than a necessity, an option. Local options are now offering similar quality for less.

I don't think anyone would even imagine that would be the case today, yet it is.

And not everyone that attend these schools are from rich or middle class families. Many of the economically disadvantage are granted scholarships to study there too on a yearly basis. Scholarships offered by the government and the private sector.

You mean to countries where a minority of the world's population lives and have an unrealistic skewed perception of what life for humans on earth is right now or more representative countries of where most of humanity lives? If you think countries like the USA or Canada are the "real" world, I got news for you.
Then there is all of Europe with the EU countries and UK, Switzerland and Norway for instance. You have Australia and NZ. And many countries in Asia we can include. I certainly don’t just consider the US and Canada the world. I am myself from Europe.

Health care is another story, and look at the results after the push to get everyone covered by Senasa medical insurance.
They've made some impressive steps with the environment, but still have a long ways to go.
I don’t think education is the worst. With the environment we will see. Health care is in my opinion the worst. The Senasa insurance system ok but what is the quality especially outside the capital.

Really high inequality is what is currently happening in neighboring Puerto Rico.
You mean those folks that carry a US passport? Can't include PR...and still have a level playing field. They can change their lives at the voting booth.

Good health Care is available in Santiago and La Vega. I am happy with my urologist, now I just have to find a cardiologist.

Another gem from NAL._>>>.Going abroad to a top notch university is no longer a necessity but an option . Local options are offering similar options for less.>> Yet ,as widely commented upon, there is not one Dominican University in the top 500 in the world.

sorry a typo error ....local options are offering similar QUALITY for less......... I see that there is no Dominican University in the top 1000 in the world but there is one at position 390 in the region...hardly likely to offer similar quality to universities in the USA and Europe ranked in the top 50.

Again what exactly are the countries in the region where the DR is third richest.

What are the countries in the region where the DR is third richest . ?? It could be the Caribbean or it could be the Latin countries in the Caribbean and Central and South America or it could be something else. Now if the determinator for the richness of a country is the salaries of the parliamentarians then the DR would. I imagine, win hands down.

Countries and their political and social systems clearly are determining themselves how they want to live.
If they want to live in autocracies or theocracies let them enjoy it, as they are.
Not to forget that Latin America and the Caribbean has 8.28 % of world pop.
Africa 17.92 %
Asia 59.73
Yet the small percentage of N.America 4.7 % and EU 9.37 % are the magnet for refugees, education, income and freedom.
Strange that Moslem refugees don't flee to Moslem countries.
Our minority countries don't dictate life style, yet many love to emulate it.
I don't think the DR or Latin countries want to copy Asian life styles where most of humanity lives.

The DR won't be the richest country in the region in five years.
If the DR want's to progress it has to do so in the competitive world market.
Education based on high foreign standards, industrial development, R&D, development of modern infrastructure in the DR.
Most basic would be Water and Electricity, followed by roads, transportation, a rail system for public transit and freight not too hard in a small country.

Propaganda rhetoric, or pie in the sky won't cut it.
It's good to be proud of your country, jealousy of those more successful looks petty and comes through in your comment.
Not to forget the many Dominicans who live in the US, yet disparage it.
Show your true colours.
My wife after travelling the world and living afuera, actually returned to the DR with all its warts because she likes it.
