Juan, we were supposed to arrange another DC Area get-together this year over the summer, but it fell through. Anyone want to try one for this month (November)? If so, where and when?

P.S. Please folks don't say Carolina's, as I found it a bit overpriced for what they serve.

Absolutely! This month's perfect. Can't think of a good place at the moment. But, yes, it should be a reasonably priced restaurant, geographically convenient to us, DC-area residents. (and it must serve longaniza & presidente) So....what do you say, friends?

Ps. Keith, had a fantastic time last DR1 gathering! Thanks again for the invite!

I would have loved to host the DR1 event this year! But I am heading out of town in the next few days. My current situation is too uncertain. But if I am still around I am willing to go where ever you decide. If people are down when I get back and all is well we can do it then.

Keith, when I think expensive I think Jaleo, Rosa Mexicana, Cafe Atlantico a plate going for $20+. So it's relative. $10-15 for a full meal in this area I think it is still do able. If people want to do cheap then you have to eat Central American (14th & Park) tamales or tacos or chinese and get $4-7 meal.

Maybe it's the plague of single life...lol I would welcome some one cooking for me everyday, too. :)

Haaaah! Deelt, You haven't lost any of your wit and humor! We need to get together some day and talk. Any DR1 reunions or expat gathering coming up?
Are you still in the DC area?

Deni, I didn't say "expensive." I said "overpriced for what they serve." Maybe I am just spoiled rotten by my wife's excellent cooking, but I was not that impressed by Carolina's fare and felt that, for what was served, it could have been priced lower.

I'd offer to host the get-together again this year, but Oni said "we've done our turn" so if it's to be in someone's home or a club or facility they belong, I'm afraid it can't be us.

Might be taboo to suggest this, but I don't think a get-together necessarily has to be at a Dominican food place or even a latin-theme place. I enjoy the company, meeting people, whether over pizza, Chinese food, beer of whatever.

I agree with you on this one Keith. It looks like us Virginia folks will have to go to DC or Maryland since it appears that is where the majority of folks live. This month actually works great for me too as this is one of those rare months when I'm not traveling somewhere. I've got a ton of ideas for places. If we can get a date somewhat solidified I'll toss my two cents out there.

Now that you mention it.....

Right now I'm in Owings Mills visiting a friend and I'm leaving tomorrow but in two weeks I can try to make it back up to the DC area. As long as you guys can point me to a hotel to stay in for the night, I'll be fine. I think that something in two weeks would be great because once THanksgiving hits, people will be trying to do other things and then there are the folks like me that are going to the DR in December for XMas and New Years. So how about it? Two weeks from now?
