In Santo Domingo:
"La Nacional" on Av. Duarte isn't bad. Nothing fancy in terms of style but good selection and they gave me a very reasonable discount.

For modern-style the only place I saw that was "Bella Casa" on Av. Bolivar. Last time I went there was 2 months ago and the prices were out of this world. U$ 300 for a Lamp on a night stand... you can figure the price for the whole bedroom set.

What about checking out the Clasificados in the List?n Di?rio? You know, the yellow paper "in the paper". Seems to me they carry ads for used furniture all the time. "Por motivo de viaje", "Me voy" etc etc.
