Please stay on topic. This has little to do with Haiti and a lot to do with people that have young children.
Debunking these "scientific" theories, especially with something so difficult to deal with as autism is important. If you happen to know the cause of autism, please step up and claim your Nobel Prize!!

40 years ago this was not very well known, and as I was working in a book store a woman came up to me ask where the books on autism were and I thought at first that she said "art books" and almost made a serious mistake... Fortunately, the gray matter was more agile back then, and I recovered.

The autism scare linked to the vaccine causes 2 problems in my experience

1) large numbers of parents not willing to take the risk so they don't vaccinate

2) Any sign of side effects (up to 15% of vaccinations) and parents are afraid have the follow up jab which is there to mop up a small number who don't react to the first dose
