Interior Minister Jesus (Chu) Vasquez told reporters that he has discovered several issues or irregularities within some of the programs underway at the ministry. One of these is the construction of the National Ballistics Lab (which cost US$22.0 million). He said that he has handed the case over to lawyers who handle recovery of state assets. The Ballistics Lab is supposed to be able to identify all the firearms in the country by way of their ballistic signature. The concession contract that was granted for the construction and administration of the laboratory is investigated. Vasquez also announced that the national program to disarm the country is set to begin on 5 June 2021
