The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) ordered administrative penalties equivalent to 20 minimum salaries be levied on three private transportation companies involved in accidents in Bavaro, La Altagracia province.
The bus companies are penalized for failing to comply with regulations established by Transport and Transit Law 63-17.
After serious accidents occurred, an investigation revealed the companies contracted by resort hotels to transport their staff were providing the services without the corresponding operating licenses. The Intrant said the bus drivers did not have the category 4 license required to drive buses.
The review of the bus company accreditations after the accident also showed that the drivers had yet to register with Intrant to offer passenger bus services.
