Investigating why the Attorney General filed away the Odebrecht corruption case

The Attorney General Office (PGR) is investigating the definitive filing of the Odebrecht US$92 million bribes case under the past administration. The Attorney General Office now under Miriam Germán Brito summoned Appeals Court prosecutor Narciso Escaño Martínez to explain the filing reasons.

It is now known that Escaño took the action with his boss, former Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, in September 2019. Escaño Martínez was covering for the head of the Specialized Prosecution for Administrative Corruption (Pepca), Laura Guerrero Pelletier who was off on her vacation. Guerrero Pelletier said she did not learn about the archiving of the case until August 2020
