Cheap?

WOW! I have been going to the DR for a LONG TIME (15 years) and am finally moving this winter for good. In my experience, the entire country is FULL of places (restaurants, hotels, shops, etc) that are BOTH nice AND relatively cheap.

If you are going to the DR solely to find "cheap" stuff to do, you are limiting almost everything this beautiful country has to offer. Come, visit, and do what you LIKE, and you will find the deals along the way... This is part of the adventure!!!

Don't sell yourself or this beautiful country short.

I always see posts more and more on DR1 for getting a cheap hotel, cheap cab ride, cheap dinners, cheap flights, cheap girls etc....... I rarely see anyone post that they are looking for a nice hotel,dinner,taxi,etc......
In my opinion if you can't afford to go on vacation and enjoy yourselves stay home and watch the travel channel you bunch of Cheap skates. Does anyone agree?

It really just depends on what you're looking for in a vacation: I personally don't care about luxury hotels or fine dining so the equivalent of a Motel 6 is OK as I don't plan to spend much time in the hotel anyway. I prefer eating in or buying something on the street or on the beach; but I'll spend my money on music, instruments, artesania, something like that and I have enough money for any contingency.

Don't forget it's the entertainers that give back so many gifts that keep on giving; chronic sociable diseases and unexpected pregnancies to name two. :squareeye

I am an entertainer, of sorts. I can honestly say that i am very family oriented and not at all like the sterotype you just employed. i personally have started over 5 different families this year in the DR.
I've also parted with a little bit of myself in the form of a pearl necklace or two. its also fair to say that ive been thanked for my gift aswell. Jokes aside, it really takes two to tango does it not? Or are we still living in the world where a man is responsible for his own actions, aswell as the actions of his female partner................what utter ROT!!!!!!!!

It's not Europe, you know. Where would the DR be without its all-inclusive resorts (food included, entertainment included, drinks included, everything included)? Isn't that the epitome of cheapness?

If you're on the high-end of the market and you go to the DR staying at the "5-star" areas, you'll inevitably be smacked somehow, somewhere to the crushing poverty and the crumbling infrastructure the DR has to offer. This is something the wealthy do not like to look at.

Just A Gigolo lyrics- He could be!!

i personally have started over 5 different families this year in the DR.

plz explain....are you a gigalo ?

Just a gigolo
everywhere I go
people know the part
I'm playing

Paid for every dance
selling each romance
every night some heart
betraying

There will come a day
youth will pass away
then what will they say
about me

When the end comes I know
they'll say just a gigolo
as life goes on
without me

'Cause I aint got nobody
nobody nobody cares for me
I'm so sad and lonely
sad and lonely sad and lonely
Won't some sweet mama
come and take a chance with me
cause I aint so bad

Get along with me babe,
been singin love songs
All of the time
Even only be, honey only, only be
Bop bozadee bozadee bop zitty bop

I ain't got nobody 'cept love songs in love
Hummala bebhuhla zeebuhla boobuhla
hummala bebhuhla zeebuhla bop

I ain't got nobody, nobody,
nobody cares for me
Nobody , nobody
I'm so sad and lonely,
sad and lonely,
sad and lonely,
Won't some sweet mama come
and take a chance with me
cause I aint so bad

Get along with me babe,
been singin love songs
All of the time
Even only be, honey only, only be

You mean the wealthy like Julio Iglesias?

Or maybe Barbara Walters?

Or perhaps the Clintons?

Or maybe, just maybe George W. Bush, SR?

Or Tom Cruise?

Or the very wealthy NYC based Bluhdorn family - Dominique even has a residence in Santo Domingo? Well, she married Hatuey de Camps, so maybe it doesn't really count. But, the entire Bluhdorn family have second homes in the DR (and CT) and visit quite often.

Who are you referring to?

The people I just mentioned are regular visitors to the DR. The list is quite lengthly of the rich and well known, even more lengthy among the rich and unknown.

The DR is the new 'it' place for the wealthy, well, at least for the wealthy in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The DR is coming out of the lips of socialites as if its the new St Barts or St Tropez.

and..that's at a 3 1/2 star!

The uber-uber rich can insulate themselves totally from the poverty BUT as for the rest, NOT! Those you can count on your hand.

People who travel a lot at their own expense (not a company reimbursment) would naturally be looking for deals... don't you agree?

"Cheapskates" have stayed at home watching TV already...

My wife uses the GOOD Call phone Card with no connection fee. She phones a landline and gets more than 100 minutes to the DR for $2.50.

Do you think these people are not aware of anything?

Many of them, like the Bluhdorn, even have charities in the DR to help the Dominican poor.

Many intermingle with the Dominican upper class in exclusive parties in Santo Domingo and Santiago.

There is no way they can travel in the DR without noticing the poverty. No way. Who do you think attended the MIR

Look at Vin Diesel, which despite he not really being accepted among the true elite, he's still very rich and practically lives in the DR. He has a property in Casa de Campo and in Santo Domingo and guess what? Do you think he didn't notice any poverty?

Almost all upper crust visitors to the DR sooner or later tours the Colonial Zone. Do you think they don't notice anything?

There is no way.
