There are plenty of shops in Japan that will get the right to left stuff as exports are, with ease. You'll never guess it was a right handed Japanese vehicle before that.

All the vehicles we buy and import from Japan get this work done by those shops there 100%. We sometimes get lucky and are able to purchase some vehicles that got damaged enough to be rejected for export and sold locally to small export dealers as second hand vehicles under other names (yes in Japan its common to change the model name and number, with the VIN the only thing left intact).

As far as the version? We like the Japanese one better, since it provides better torque, horsepower and mileage than their US version.

You can't no longer import a car from Japan to the DR that's right handed, it must be left side with certification to boot.

There are several shops doing these conversions and there are about a dozen being run by Dominicans in several port cities of Japan today. They mostly export to south America and Panama.

There are a lot of Dominicans in Japan! Every time we go there I'm amazed how much it seems to grow in numbers all over in cities I'd never seen Dominicans before.
