As of Monday, 18 May, the Dominican Republic will be in lockdown 59 days. The state of emergency is extended from 18 May to 1 June 2020. The state of emergency eases government procurement and spending for situations created by the coronavirus.

Widely overpriced procurement has marked the Medina administration contracting during the state of emergency. Leading investigative journalists and opposition politicians have presented significant evidence of the irregularities in procurement.

As of Bulletin #59 issued on 17 May 2020, there were 12,314 confirmed cases, 204 new confirmed cases and 428 deaths since the first case was registered on 1 March 2020. The statistics record 53,280 PCR diagnostic tests for a population of upwards of 10 million people.
