The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) announces that as of 9 March 2022, the Denied Series System goes into effect. The system was installed to block mobile devices that have been reported as stolen, lost or whose IMEI has been altered or duplicated both in the country and in the international database of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA).

This measure goes into effect through Resolution No. 041-2020 of the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel). They’ll soon find out. First thing Mr AE said was “Now maybe people won’t get killed for their cellphones “
It will continue happening as their announcement doesn't make it harder to steal cell phones although
it may make it harder (in theory) to reactive them once they've been wiped clean.

I've always just had an older generation phone, and never had any issues.

I had mine swiped out of my hand by a professional. I was in SD in an Uber that had no aircon, so I had my window rolled down. We were stuck in traffic and I was reading a message on my phone when a motorcyclist drove alongside, put his hand inside car and swiped the phone right out of my hand. He was wearing rubber gloves with pimples for better grip. He rode off through the traffic.

The feeling of utter fury at that moment was intense!

It was an iPhone and the thief knew straight away to switch it off and remove the SIM card. He knew it was only worth the spare parts. An iCloud locked Apple product is useless. I doubt this new law will prevent what happened to me.

The smart phone is in my bag or backpack; my 20 year old flip phone is in my front pocket. They're more than welcome to it.

I'm really sorry that happened. I know it sucks as I have had 2 phones taken here. I have been conscious about open windows though. I think about that often whenever we're stopped in a guagua or Uber or taxi.

If only I had a dollar for every snatch and grab I witnessed while living in S.D. Este.
A friend mine was punched in the face without warning near the corner of Charlie y Mendoza
around 10am with young daughter in tow around 10am in the morning a guy snatched
her new phone riding a motorbike. Cops in truck tried chasing the perps but got stuck in traffic,

3 months ago in the capital, this Uber driver ran off with my Huawei phone still inside his car (it had slipped out of my pocket).

Uber even asked him to call me back on my second phone so he could return the device (with extra compensation offered on my part), but he just kept the phone.
I always wonder if he was ever able to use it since my screen is locked with a PIN.

Thankfully it was an older device that I wasn't using much.
