And I will gladly accept your invitation!

As for motoconchos: many people take them day and night. I dont recommend it. And at night - to go any distance you are taking your life in your hands! Take a taxi - what is your life worth???

Commuting between Playa Dorada and Cabarete late at night is not recommended. Best would be to split your stay between both places -- half and half, like that you can get the feel for both places. With Viva Wyndham you could have done that because they have a hotel in Cabarete and another in Playa Dorada. While this is too late to be done in your case, it is worthwhile suggestion for anyone young wanting to come to party.

Cabarete: Viva Wyndham Tangerine - Dominican Republic (DR1)
Playa Dorada: Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada - Dominican Republic (DR1)

Real Latino Clubs

If you want real Latin music you pretty much have to leave Playa Dorada .

Hi Planner

I'm coming over the last week in January with my hubbie. Having visited Mangu etc on my last visit, I'm really interested in visiting some of the real mcCoy Latin clubs or music playing bars that the locals frequent ( can get hip - hop, R&B and all that at home) but don't want to stick out like a sore thumb!!

Could you give us a few names and addresses - I'm pretty familiar with POP itself but not street names.

I get the impression from your posts that you work for a local school. Let me know if there is anything that I can bring you but bear in my I only have a luggage allowance of 15KG.

The company that I work for has a 'Passion for the world around us' so I can normally get a few freebies.

HI Dawn, pretty much no matter what you do you will stick out like a sore thumb. I regularly go to local dance clubs and would be more then happy to take you and your hubby along. THat way you can get the experience and feel safe!

Some Clubs:

Orion - open saturday and sunday only. Large, all latin music. Close building

Terraza Caribe - large as well, all latin with a bit of reggaeton. This is covered but with partially open side walls. Friday saturday and sunday are best. I almost always go there on Sunday nights.

La Canita - large, all latin with a bit of reggaeton. Newly remodeled and much safer then before. Same construction basically as Terraza Caribe. I like Wednesday and Friday here.

Rancho Tipico - just the other side of Puerto Plata (west) Large, same construction design, same music.

Mountainview - smaller in some ways, smaller dance floor. NOt a club I like to go to.

Azucar - east of Playa Dorada, just before Montellano. Large, two floors, same construction - ceiling with 1/2 walls. All latin with a bit of reggaeton. I go there once in a while.

There are many other smaller places but these are the bigger ones.

Drinks: Beer, rum by the bottle - small or larger - white, regular or aged - you order the bottle and mix get a bucket of ice and glasses for under $10 US. Not bad at all. Beer prices are going up January 1 so I will let you know later.

Dress - well almost anything goes but dress down a bit. Jeans are more then acceptable. Lately we are seeing the local ladies in really really short shorts. I'm not sure how they can move...... but the boys like them. Tops are short, tight and flashy.....LOL Men - who cares what they wear it is all about us women...

Schools: nope I am not a teacher - except some dancing lessons - but I have friends who are teachers or who are dating teachers. I like to help out. Whatever you can get "donated" is a big help.

Send me an email or PM me for contact info if you want to go out on the town....

Is there a new tax?:paranoid: :surprised :ermm:

It would be nice to know what the prices are because I had a waitress at La Canita try to charge me an inflated stupid gringo price which really p!ssed me off.

Yup another 15% tax based on volume not alcohol content!

Well honey anytime you are in La Canita and the waitress doesn't hand you the chit with the amount on it - don't pay her! They get fired routinely for trying to pull that crap.

And YES I can................... when you coming back???

DV8 I agree, unless you can look the same as Kylie Minogue, when she wore hers in her 'spinning around' video then you should leave be.

NOt here! The women of this country do NOT subscribe to the North American or European image of the perfect woman. Dominican women are alll that! Their self image is absolutely amazing. THey wear what they want and they think they look fabulous and they don't give a damn what you think. It is wonderful to watch.

Actually this could easily be it's own thread topic. Our teenage girls who are anorexic and aspiring to the skinny life should come down here and learn a few things!

Age is not an issue here either! Old, middle or young these women have a wonderful sense of their own bodies. They accept and like who they are physically and that is all there is to it.......... ;)

Can you clarify that this was at Mangu in Puerto Plata or Mangu in Punta Cana? I"ve not heard of one here in Puerto Plata. Thanks.
