Hi Planner , we are heading to the DR on jan 25 th . Have two children 10 and 12 , staying at the Holiday Vil . Was wondering about things to do and places to take them so they can get a feel for life and the people who live there .schools ,where people work ,farms . ect .

HI Chuck - you need to check out the thread on Holiday Village. Do a search, the thread is very long but full of great information.

I will suggest one of the jeep safari trips for you and the kids. That is a good way to get a base idea of what it is like.

I also suggest you get into Puerto Plata and check out the city. You don't need a tour for that. I wrote more in the other thread on this.

lots of tour operators organize safari trips that will include a visit in a small villages but keep in mind those "simple" folks receive tourists on daily basis so it ain't quite a "real thing". you can still try thou.
good fun.
brugal factory does tours inside a bottle plant, it is interesting, like stuff from discovery channel.
take the kids up the cable car with a picnic basket, botanical gardens are beautiful and you can eat your food with a view of whole city...

Yes the foam party was at Mangu in Puerto Plata. Cover charge is 150-250 pesos and includes one drink.
