Rancho Baiguate

I kind of like Rancho Baiguate more for the reasons that there are more facilities like pool, gift shop, buffet restaurant etc etc the other one seems to be more like a parking lot.

River Rafting - Canyoning - Pico Duarte Tours and the Papillon Garden with Butterfly Exhibition at Rancho Baiguate Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic!

Just my opinion, have a great day.

Rancho Baiguate or Rancho Jarabacoa. I like Rancho jarabacoa. Both can do the horseback ride to the falls. I usually go to Rancho Jarabacoa for the horseback riding and to hang out for a few hours. Either one is really nice.

River Rafting - The Adventure Center in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic - River Rafting, Canyoning, Pico Duarte Tour, Horesback Riding with summer camp and lodging.

Whats the peak season for water activities?
There is a pretty good hangout up the road , think it was called la cortina (curtain), basically a waterfall next to the road, and a fresh water pool overflowing off the road. Good fun for a few hours. Was able to pick up some verduras off a farmer. Further up from la cortina was another business/nature lodge style accomodations, but forgot the name.
This area has the potential for lots of fun, and cool weather. The people are very friendly and respectful. Make sure your driver hasnt been drinking because there are very little road barriers on the cliffside of the road (last time i visited).
The area, including la vega is very big with growing flowers , among other items, as the soil and conditions are very fertile. Good thing jarabacoa has not gained popularity with the all inclusive visitors.

Be careful. Its chock full of Canadians who have been altered by living in a rarified atmosphere.

Bob, this is EddieC,
You may remember me from my previous request for information concerning Jarabacoa.
I'd like to look a Jamaca de Dios next time I come. The videos look beautiful. I did hear of some problems there concerning
protests, etc. What was this all about?
Has this all melted away?

I'm a little confused about Salto de Jimenoa I and Salto de Jimenoa II. Are these the same falls? My wife, son, and I were just in Jarabacoa this past weekend, and we went to Salto II, if I'm not mistaken. The falls we went to were those with the suspended bridges at the hydroelectric operation. The turn-off is located on the road that runs from La Vega to Jarabacoa between km4 and km 5. As we were headed to Constanza from Jarabacoa, we noticed another Salto de Jimenoa turn-off (which we were told was Salto I). Are these the same falls, or are they two separate falls? It looks to me like if they are not the same falls, they must be close to one another because it appears that they are in the same valley. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Two options. Villa Celeste, run by the wonderful Vanessa, who is from a Dominican family but grew up in New York. The cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in, it's more like renting a condo in a gated community but it's nice and quiet. Second option Hotel Gran Jimenoa, I can't believe how nice it was when I stayed there for just US$ 50 per night per room, including breakfast. It's on the river as well. From what I have been told, JRC isn't what it used to be, so do read the current views on Tripadvisor.

its me I stay out of the rivers. People, cows, sheep, goats, even republicans poo poo in the rivers up stream of you. Had a bud who went white water rafting in Costa Rica. Tipped over and was under maybe two or three feet and got water in his sinus cavities. Developed an infection that haunted him for years until he got tired of suffering and went to an ent specialist in Miami who went inside his sinus cavities and somehow scraped out the fungus or whatever it was. He was cured but the cure was nasty. After hearing his story my river swimming was over. Even ocean swimming near river mouths can give you nasty long term infections. I try and avoid any extra suffering whenever possible.

I think that you can safely swim at Salto de Jimenoa uno as the water is coming more or less off inaccessible mountain valleys. Lower down in the valley there is no way I would swim in that polluted water. There are a number of side streams coming off the mountains that would be clean, but I would rather not take the chance.

In spite of the atrocious grammar and spelling, here is your answer.

water contact diseases acquired through swimming or wading in freshwater lakes, streams, and rivers:
Leptospirosis - bacterial disease that affects animals and humans; infection occurs through contact with water, food, or soil contaminated by animal urine; symptoms include high fever, severe headache, vomiting, jaundice, and diarrhea; untreated, the disease can result in kidney damage, liver failure, meningitis, or respiratory distress; fatality rates are low but left untreated recovery can take months.
Schistosomiasis - caused by parasitic trematode flatworm Schistosoma; fresh water snails act as intermediate host and release larval form of parasite that penetrates the skin of people exposed to contaminated water; worms mature and reproduce in the blood vessels, liver, kidneys, and intestines releasing eggs, which become trapped in tissues triggering an immune response; may manifest as either urinary or intestinal disease resulting in decreased work or learning capacity; mortality, while generally low, may occur in advanced cases usually due to bladder cancer; endemic in 74 developing countries with 80% of infected people living in sub-Saharan Africa; humans act as the reservoir for this parasite.

LMAO

I will never, nor let my kids, swim in a river again thanks to your friend's story.

Did notice that in public access roaring rivers, people jump in with their undies on. Water was very cold and refreshing, but thinking of all the people who take a dip after a hot sweaty day, nasty!

These ranchos are a good deal, better than a cabana! With water access in your backyard! Stayed at one 15 minutes up the mountain road. $50 p nite with breakfast.

The restaurant view isincredible and a must see. It is the nicest vista I have seen in the DR and in my life. Aroma De La Montana is the name. Breathtaking and the food was great too.

It is a very nice view, but you need to get out more.

As for others commenting on the river and swimming, just don't do it.

I "get out" all the time! Way moreso than you. I is a budget thing. Restaurants all the time. Lifestyle difference. I guess you retired too soon ...

Right. As if going to restaurants is what I meant.

I meant other places in the world. I suspect you have been to fewer places in Canada than I have.
