JCE approves ruling for non-sentenced prisoners to be able to vote in presidential election

The institutions responsible for the prison system need to provide the JCE with an official list of the citizens who meet the requirements to vote in the presidential election on 19 May 2024.

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) approved on 7 December 2023 the rules for jailed yet not sentenced persons to vote in the 2024 presidential elections in the Dominican Republic.

The JCE requires that the person have an updated identity and voting card and be on a specific electoral roll provided by the jails.

The pilot program this year will be carried out in jails under the new penitentiary model and at the prisons of Nagua, Azua and Salcedo, where voting precincts will be set up.
